..so you get a late model efi engine and stick an agricultural carb on it? :?

its like the poms, they always grab a zetec or something and throw away the fuel injection for carbs. This is mainly because they're typical poms who don't like change and are always slow to technology. And they don't have cheap aftermarket computer systems like LINK. but it cracks me up aye... :lol:

`yeahit is a bit savage....

but its set up for a jetboat and the whole thing from scratch including the motor and alloy and trailer cost him $5k......

i prefer carb motors myself...... i love em

i was reading in a Ford tuning scope artical about shit like that. IT had about 4 differant stages of tuning for the zetec and durotec i think. They both started standard. Then for the next step they did a few things like filter and manifold normal things. Second step was more of the same really with a bit more things like injectors, cams, computer etc. Third step they went of with the injection and on with carbies. For the forth step the injection throtle body was brough back in but still with carbies. Each of these steps gaining more and more power coming out with some huge powered zetec race engine.

So yeah my point is that their most powerfull tuning idea for the zetec etc was with carbies. However like said before its england.

yeah.... i actually odn't know but i think efi tends to be good for a fast street engine if you want better fuel ecomy... but with a full out race engine that is always at super high rpm carbs work a treat.. cos thats the main reason they aren't goo don the street..... they are sluggish at low rpm and cos they are fixed jets... still use heaps of fuel

Like I said, in the UK to get big power you don't get much of choice cos they're so backward they don't have much aftermarket computer gear or chips or anything. Especially cheap units like the link. & the gear they do have is expensive and nobody seems to know much about it...its quite laughable really.

Like Burton catalog. I've been getting it for years and they're only just really starting to push throttlebodies and efi replacement now! :rolleyes:

But really its cos they're poms and they like things the way they've always done it 'the british way' or whatever. Slow to grab new ideas I suppose. Whereas us Kiwis are always into ingenuity which is why we've got some of the cheapest aftermarket computers around. You can't even get a computer for $1500 in australia.

looks like that dude made the manifold out of lead, looks rangi as but id still put it in my engine bay :P

from what ive read and heard with the zetec engines the main thing that limits the power is the induction, you can go from 135hp to 155-160hp by changing to twin carbs and few minor other bits, but rt is right the poms love their carbs and rightly so, so i guess everything non carb is expensive over there because of the lack of demand.

but then again RT will always be an injection man cause he runs it :P , and i cant blame him i wouldnt wanna try a turbo carb'd pinto! and we are carb guys cause we run carbs, but if i had fuel injection it might be a different story, just the way things are

Alot of the kit car guys in the uk are running Throttle boddies on zetec and duratec engines you can get a set of jenveys for a reasonable price but like alot of places it's alot about personel choice and sticking to what you know :D

someone told me Nascar still run carbed engines too??

well throwing twincarbs on a zetec boosts the power approx. 20hp, and a bunch of fanatics have piles or webbers or dellortos lying around.. not many people have huge throttle bodie kits spare.. and theyre not too cheap..

are ya sure? the zetec E grabs about 5-10hp running throttle bodies instead of carbs.. you sure they didnt ditch the carbs in the last step? throttle bodie injectors look just like sidedraft carbs with a fuel rail along the top btw..

yup, standard 2.0 zetec E is around 135, 155ish with twin carbs, 165ish with twin throttle bodies..

i know that my 1600 zetec goes ok from standard but after i put filter 2.25 exhaust on without cat

it just revs now its great but ive been told the heads on these zetecs are the downside

give it a headjob and ill be racing v-tecs b4 ya know it

hha that motor up there is crazy

get a smaller carb and a better inlet manifold
