Av Gas.....

BAD RT, BAD!!

havent you dropped the compression on your turbo'd engine anyway - so it would run av properly, I thought you needed like 10.5:1 fpr av?

(excuse me if I am COMPLETELY wrong...)

yes and no. For n/a you need quite high compression to make avgas worthwhile. And yes I have low compression but running avgas allows the engine to handle greater amounts of boost due it it's high octane levels decrease any tendancy to detonate.

...plus...it's got lead in it...hehe protects your valve seats. But if you get caught using it.....

how do you get snapped for using it? i was told the exhaust leaves a particluar smell...?

also.. once for all, does anyone know a particular place in aux to buy some? and do they pump it or do you have to roll up with a gas can?

i was also told theres a ridiculous fine for using that shit on the roads, some bull like 10 000 buckaroonies or something...

man, they used to pump it at the shell around the corner! Now you can only get it from the racetrack and you need a race license to get it. And you roll up with a can...or a barrell.

Sure you get in trouble but not 10G's!! where did you hear that? no way would you get fined that much.

They can only tell my 2 things: the smell out your exhaust and it turn's the tip of your exhuast grey rather than black...

The trick is to not run pure, mix some in with some 98 and you'll get the lead and a bit of octane boost. :P

No. They are way too small to make any difference. Best to make your own..but remember, running higher octane won't make more power. It actually a misconception that it does. However it allows you to make more power by higher boost levels and higher compression ratios. If you engine has neither of these then don't bother using higher octane fuel.

This is the basic formula of one of the popular octane booster products.

To make eight 16 ounce bottles (128 oz = 1gal):

100 oz of toluene for octane boost (found in paint shops)

25 oz of mineral spirits (cleaning agent)

3 oz of transmission fluid (lubricating agent)

This product is advertised as "octane booster with cleaning agent *and* lubricating agent!".

Diesel fuel or kerosene can be substituted for mineral spirits and light turbine oil can be substituted for transmission fluid. Color can be added with petroleum dyes.

I'd say so, I don't do much with high compression n/a engines. But my mate had 10.5-1 on his SR 3K and he ran it on avy...

smeeeelllls goooood

If you do use avegas, and you get pulled over for god sake don't sit there idling while the cop talks to you. If you get snapped tell him it's your own octane booster you made...memorise the formula so you can convince him of this.
