Guest 78lancer Posted September 28, 2004 Share Posted September 28, 2004 i got a 78 lancer, the shape b4 the ex lancer came out, and i was wondering if all the old mitsi shit all bolts up in2 the same mounts, like do the old 4g motors all mount in2 the original engine mounts and do all gearboxs spline in2 the any drive shaft??? Guest LukeNukem Posted September 28, 2004 Share Posted September 28, 2004 Any old Astron or Astron 2 should drop in fine, not sure if you would want to go for chain or belt drive though, I've only ever had chain drives. The engine in my Sigma dropped a piston and needed the whole engine replaced, so a week later by coincidence, a heap that had being trashed turned up outside my missus' work, left it there for a week then nabbed it before the counsel could jank it from my hands. The engine in that was (the car was Sigma '83 wagon, engine went into '79 Sigma), a newer '82 model and dropped in perfectly, just had to change over the clutch. If you do get an Astron engine, you might want to strip and rebuild it and replace the gaskets and piston rings + bearings and check for faults in the crank case, then it should serve you well for another 5 or so years. But yeah the 4 speed would be fine and as long as you didn't treat it way too bad or modded the engine toooo much, it shouldn't give you hassles. You can pick 'em up for 200-300 from wreckers, but thats too much in my opinion, you'de beable to get them 100-150 if you look hard enough.
