  1. The CRV with Landrover Discovery viscous to pinned CRV diff setup seems to be capable of 7s in a civic, but then they are all cars that would run 8s without the rear assist probably.

It's all pointing to the 2AR/2AZ being a better option in a Toyota

  2. Have a look here https://www.woodsport.org/forum/forum.php

Paul Woods from Woodsport pioneered the 2gr MR2 swap I believe. He built a 2gr AWD first gen Rav4. I seem to recall him using a smaller transfer case from a later model Rav4 due to it being smaller than the GT4 one. Also google 2gr Alltrac, the US Celica guys have done it a couple of times which may help with finding bits that give more clearance.

It was Hux racing that told me the Toyota transfer wouldn't fit with the K24 block. It was a comment on one of his Facebook posts somewhere I believe.

  3. It's looking like I'm gonna need a 3/4" Clutch master to work with my hydraulic throwout bearing. It's going into my 1uz Ce71/Ke70 Wagon. The factory CE71 cylinder is 5/8" and roughly 85mm long with a vertical bolt pattern.

I've found a Tilton cylinder that appears to be the best option so far, but if anyone has any ideas for something that's OEM and more OEM-priced I'm all ears. The factory one is very cosy with my driver's side head, so I can't go any longer realistically. I'm not keen to go to reverse swing.

This is the Tilton option. https://www.cardwells.co.nz/product/tilton-master-cylinder-76-series/

    2ZRFE / 2ZRFXE

This is a similar era engine to the above, but a smaller 1.8 litre 4 cyl motor.
When the 2ZZGE stopped production, Lotus used a supercharged 2ZR engine instead in the Lotus Elise.
So there's some alright aftermarket goodies.
This was also the 1.8 litre engine used in the 1.8 litre prius, hybrid and non hybrid versions in corollas. So they're fairly common.
There's a prius version on trademe for $700.

Perhaps most notably though, this engine was used in "Yaris Hilton" by Mighty Car mods as their cheap and cheerful turbo car.
They eventually blew the motor up, it was shitloads of fun and zero fucks were given.

It's pretty awesome that this engine spans all the way from being in a $$$ Lotus, to the basis for an absolute shitbox car minimum spend build for max lolz.

The 2zr also benefits from sharing an exhaust manifold pattern with the outgoing 1ZZ and a bell housing pattern with the 1NZ.

My Ae111 AWD Build that should have been finished long ago (blame moving to OZ and a no rush attitude) is now looking like itll get a K24 (turboed) for moderate power with options to turn the wick up later rather then going down the 9a route (stroked 7a/20v head etc) as the money I save on the motor can go to other things

I did look at the 2AR as would have liked to go Toyota but the K24 is just a better engine, and tbh I may end up not having any markings on the valve cover so who would know ;) as @Roman said 3S bellhousings for transverse engine are an option (shame ive swapped my GT4 Celica box to an A series housing :S) so would need an adapter plate either way

As realistically im building the Ae111 for part availability and the K24 support is just nuts

Adapter plates and custom flywheels are pretty easy to get these days, I had a look at Tilton twin plates for the E series wide gear AWD box with A series housing on it and I can get a K24 flywheel with all the 7.25" plates etc off the shelf (just need to work out input shaft engagement, and id ideally like to have the starter motor on the gearbox side rather then the engine side but thats not a big deal. I suspect once I get measurements there may already be a K24 Flywheel in a kit that will work or I can shave some bellhousing etc etc

I don't want to rain on your parade if you were considering using the E-series toyota box with the K24, but I talked to the K24 to E-series adapter guy that does all the MR2 kits when I was considering doing a k24 into an ae104 wagon and he said he's looked into it and the K24 block will not play nicely with the Toyota transfer case. He recommended going to CRV gear.

    A totally random Q,

Would a 2J fit in a Carina/Corona of this generation without too much fettling?
I can’t find any info on the inter webs. I see a Carina rolling body for sale, Altezza Gita/Lexus G300/Aristos have 2Js, and it’s got Me daydreaming.

I'd be very careful if looking at that Carina, someone that openly talks about doing plates and tags on a car on TradeMe might not be the best person to deal with and as @Dudley pointed out there was a stolen warning on it

  7. @KKtrips and or @cletus

Just read Chris' comments in the dodgy cert advice Facebook group around the bump steer swing test.

On a ke70/ae86 with Techno Toy Tuning roll center adjusters between the strut and steering knuckle is a swing test required for Cert if the car doesn't have adjustable height tie-rod ends? I know @advokit had trouble getting a cert because he had bump steer adjustable tie-rod ends and ended up reverting to factory as he couldn't get his bump steer within spec. Will I need a swing test with just the RCAs? From my understanding the factory bump steer in a corolla is pretty bad to begin with?

The injectors are paid for and in the way.

That is the exact turbo Im looking into, recommended via Matt from NZ Performance

On a side note..anyone know if the Mazda intercooler clips are a stocked item anywhere?

Ash was asking someone about them on one of the Misfire videos I'm pretty sure. The guy said he laser cut them himself

  9. Crazy idea here....

Run what you have, and see what happens. Don't waste energy theorising on what might happen, and over-complicating things. This was the Echo's charm, cheap, cheerful and iterative.

I also know that your name is David and you're incapable of not over-thinking the whole process

Problem with the cert situation is some certifiers are gc’s, however there are some “C” s too and if they feel like making your life miserable they will. My colleague is dealing with a re-vin of a Land Rover which has a holden motor in it from way back so cert is required. How would you feel rocking up to the cert place of business and having the guy say shit like “I fucken hate pommy shit” and “go get the brakes rebuilt by xyz company. It’ll still fail the brake test though harharhar!” There isn’t an ombudsman for this industry is there?

The guy up here hates "Jap Shit" and I've seen him test suspension travel by jumping up and down in the boot of a car.

Every time I hear of an interaction with him it makes me want to trailer my car down to Auckland to see @cletus

Damn that's the same fabric as in my z31 recaros that I need to get redone, didn't appreciate it would be common

There's a guy in Aussie that sells Recaro fabric and refurbed seats if you can't find the fabric closer to home

Edit: @Snoozin and @xsspeed beat me to it

ironically i have their defi style multi gauge. i fucking love it, way back when i got it i was talking to the guy and he told me all about how he had speced his stuff with high quality parts from the chinese factory over the ali express versions that were priced 10x cheaper. he was super transparent and had all the receipts. the product is excellent and speaks for itself. its very small so wouldnt suit a race car but great for tucking away in a classic car and having all the vitals read plus limits and alarms programmed and should these be triggered the display forced that parameter front and centre with flashing lights and a tone.

funny thing was at the time i was looking for a multi unit that didn't say 'turbo' for the boost since the car was supercharged, turned out he owned an AW11 MR2 supercharged and had run into the same issue so his unit had the option to display 'manifold pressure' (or something on those lines, its been a while since i applied power to that car :( ) which i loved, though looks like it just says boost now.

This multigauge looks pretty cool, kinda what I want for my Corolla.
