  1. finally have stripped all the diff, leaf springs, arms, hubs ect and started to clean it all up ready for paint got the diff housing and backing plates done, thinking of painting it all in por15 black, or anyone have any other suggestions?
  2. Got the chassis back today pretty happy with how its turned out, been busy stripping down arms ready to be painted then new bushes and ball joints ect need to get this back rolling
  3. heres a rubbish photo of my old wagon, was running the original hubcaps with whitewall flappers
  4. haha yeah it would wear off quick, not sure if its an import or not
  5. nice, look forward to checking out the pics, yeah i noticed when i spent a year living in chester about four years ago there wasn't too many about, haha the vehicles get a hiding from rust over there we get a few imports from the uk in at work there only 2009-2011 and have so much surface rust underneath
  6. love the wagon such a cool shape! be a handy cheap to run daily
  7. yeah i think thats what he said it was, he called it a viva but it looked quite different I'm pretty sure it was the same as this it looked like they were going all out on it, pretty cool anyway love the lines on your new wagon two door is awesome too
  8. look forward to seeing what you do with this, wagons are cool. have you seen the viva camper being built in nelson at new ports?
  9. quite the collection you have there! is there a few old mazdas over in ireland?
  10. Yeah i like the b1500 front bit unique, yes bonnet folds forward same as b1600, but the grille isn't attached to bonnet like b1600. Im planning on painting same/similar colour to this chevy truck, going the one colour for body and roof and have white grille/bumper/mazda on tailgate ect. pretty keen on a circuit/club car next once this is done and out of the shed ill find a shell I've got the running gear stacked in the corner, but will be cool to tow it around with this
  11. awesome look forward to following this
  12. cheers, heres a couple of photos from after i removed the canopy tray and bull bars Yeah i had plans of doing a rotary one but the extra cost was going to make it a really long term build and a wee bit impractical, so decided to just redo everything and avoid cost of cert and sold 12a motor and box to fund new parts. Yeah meaning oil as in fish oil it to prevent any rust in the future I've heard its a good thing to do, planning on holding onto this for a long time will hopefully have a update of a painted chassis by the end of the week
  13. any discussion, ideas or what have you
  14. Starting of fresh with the b1500 as I've ditched the rotary idea and b1600 for the older b1500. Plan is to pretty much just restore it and lower it with a couple of subtle mods. keeping the factory motor and use it as a daily driver. Here it is how i picked it up from a car yard over in motueka I've stripped it all down and removed cab from chassis Sent chassis off to be blasted repaired a couple of thin sections where the blaster went through and now its ready to go back to be powder coated looking forward to getting it back painted and start piecing it back together with all new gear, also going to oil the chassis to try and prevent any rust in the future anyone had experience with that Discussion thread //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/44409-maxteds-1969-mazda-b1500/
  15. super cool look forward too seeing what you do with this
  16. b1500 is just the same as b1600 drums, yeah I've heard need to use a late model ball joint Ill pm you regarding stubs jase, roughly what sort of height did it sit at? and was suspension factory otherwise? and what size tyres/rims were you running?
  17. Hey guys been trying to find some info on putting drop spindles in my b1500, I've got some discs off a b1600 i believe bolt up with changing lower balljoint to a later model one, just wondering if anyone has been through this? or if the drop spindles from later model couriers can be made to work ect? any info is much appreciated, cheers
  18. A mate came across this on a car yard had been traded in by some old lady, so snapped it up always loved the b1500 fronts, got it for a reasonable price, its had a 1600 NA engine and 5 speed floor shift conversion and has certification for it also, starts and runs was last on the road in 2012, its a bit of a pig of a thing for some reason when you put clutch in it stalls out engine? has a spot of rust in the floor and a bad sill (luckily the other b1600 I've stripped for parts has a solid sill on that side will cut out for patch panel), its also a 1969 first of the square b1500 shape, came with ugly ass flat deck and canopy as soon as got back to the shed whipped all that off and the bull bar, got a fair pile of scrap metal now. plan is to do this one up instead of the green b1600 and continue daily driving that, need to do rubbish/scrap metal run and make some room to take cab off and start stripping chassis back. heres a snap of it sitting on the yard got it back to the shed 1969 getting old for a mazda stripped of its deck and bull bars love the old school bonnet emblem wellside to go on
  19. had a change of direction with this, decided as i want too daily drive it and keep it as original as possible, so pulled the 12a out and sold it too free up some money to paint it ect instead and just leave the 1600 in there as it goes really good and cheap as too run no cert blah blah blah so stripped spare ute for its well side, diff, suspension and anything else that was salvage-able, going to start to clean up well side and new tailgate and get it all straight and primed
  20. The shots of this in the nzpc looks awesome very cool group photo
  21. tailgate turned up, should look good
  22. test fit the engine mounts, its all worked out pretty well fits snug between chassis rails, the oil fitting for the oil cooler will foul the front plate so will space it out or get a 90 degree fitting need to see how much room i have to move mounts the left hand side i couldn't get the other plate in as it hit the water pump, have taken a spare waterpump into work to change the inlet pipe with a sharper bend to dodge the mounts trans mount are all made just needs trimming to fit between rails
  23. Hey man, sorry my green ute im still daily driving and the other brought without engine got it cheap coz i took it all out for him. Will keep an eye out and ask some around some people that may have one are you only after a 1600 or would you put in a vc 1.8 or ma 2.0?
  24. Cheers, any mounts off the chassis rail needs to be attached the full height of the rail otherwise you can weld a plate to the chassis rail first then weld your mount to that, so the weights not pulling at the centre of the chassis rail, bit hard to explain i could scan that page and send it to you if you want, i just remade the mount the same height as the rail
  25. made up front plate just tacked together until I've test fitted in the engine bay, hopefully have the engine and box mounted by the weekend ready to remove cab and start making some real progress, also found a nz new tailgate with the big mazda pressed into it scored it for a good price its in really good condition too only need minimal panel work. also read up on the hobby car manual, had to make some changes to trans mounts to make them the full height of the chassis
