  1. I used a quartermaster 721-100 after reading of the dramas with the howe bearings. Its behind my 1uz and, touch wood, has been hassle free for 40000 kms of crawling down SH2 in wellington traffic. I got this kit when it was still a reasonable price http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=864089094 but you can import yourself for not too much if you shop around
  2. Ive seen a few with the califont mounted in a box over the drawbar, keeps the gas run short and no need to make another potential leak in the roof
  3. can also recommend the wetback idea, bag of coal to get it to 40deg, and another to keep it there for 2 days. Also look for cheap warehouse pool pumps on the tard, got a new one for $50 Insulated the pipes with a towel as it was Twizel, and about -2 outside
  4. my mounts turned up today, pretty stoked with them for 150usd! and in, now have 15mm clearance all round, so should keep the cert man happy Tried the crown header, it fits with about 2mm between the steering knuckle so need to get creative In other news... house buying sucks. but have gone conditional on this 90m2 of garage/basement, double garage is behind (could fit 3 cars in) theres a house and a section too, but this is the best bit
  5. Tried my hand at making up a hose today, I am using -6 braided teflon hoses for power steer and fuel, and -3 for my clutch line. Started on the longest hose so I could make a cockup and not worry too much... seems that was a good choice as I used shit tape when I made the cut and the cut off wheel flared the braid out making it impossible to put the nut on. Learnt 2 lessons - put the nut on first, and use good tape Checked and its about 3 inches longer than one of my fuel lines i have to make so not too much wasted hose. Also got one of these to convert my standard fuel hose to AN fittings as it isnt long enough to move the filter out of the way of the head and header. And the hose I made Tim
  6. Is painful, but will be mint to have something of our own that has more than a car+nothing man cave and yea, keeping the Aircon - its hella easy as the compressors have the same oulet flange and are in roughly the same place. Looks a bit messy as I haven't degassed it yet so the old pumps hanging around. When the 1uz's in for the final time I will get the mobile aircon guy round to degas the old one, I'll unbolt/rebolt and get him to gas it back up. Found some engine mounts that are the right height, are poly, and are cheaper landed than some standard ones from mountshop They are for a Cadillac CTS-V so should be more than up to the task! also ordered this Was less than half the price shipped than the ones on trademe.. go fleabay When the mounts arrive I'll pull it out and install the clutch (anyone got a W5x clutch alignment tool I can borrow in welly? ) and install the fan bracket/idler and drop it back home for hopefully the last time. A few nights of attaching wires and it should be started Tim
  7. Fuck. Had a big update writting and smashed the back button on the mouse. Aweseome. Havent done much recently as promised the better half we would save for a house deposit.. got preapproved for a loan so figure i can start spending on the car again When looking at the struts for Euron8 I noticed some rust, turns out it has been done before and hit with some bog but not painted properly. I'm not sure if I can get away with some more bog or if I need it cut out.. I hit what i could with a wire wheel and some kill-rust, and will assess properly when I pull the screen to replace it. pretty crap photo, but thoughts on if it needs cut out? I have no experience with rust at all Have ordered some more Metric to AN adapters for my fuel and PS lines as I cocked up the thread (1.5mm vs 1mm), and worked out the only big expenses left are: Drive shaft Exhaust Getting the diff setup in the cressida housing Some 215/35/19s for the front as the 235s dont have enough stretch/guard clearance And a fan bracket to get rid of the hydraulic fan pump think im gonna import one from the states as they are well cheaper than trademe/toyota nz so if anyone is keen for one and wants to halve shipping hit me up Also lifted the 1u up and got an engine rubber out so i can go down to BNT in the am and find some (taller) replacements. Im hoping 250000kms of holding the 7M up has squished them a bit and hopefully some standard ones will be sweet. Cheers, Tim
  8. from top of the camberplate to the join of the strut tube to the hub (top of the cast bit) is 490mm with no weight, 465mm sitting on the ground with the 1uz in I got 10mm machined off the bottom of the BCs and welded 10mm up the tube. less than 5mm from tire to guard with a 235/35/19 hope that helps?!
  9. If you you want i can measure the legnth of my BCs with no weight on them?
  10. hmm this is all i could find atm wasnt overly low in the front, those springs are only cobra lows... bringing the back down from the standard bogan rake was another story, i think it was 65mm lower than standard in the back and 30 in the front in that pic the best low i had before my coil overs was std s14 springs, 60-70mm chassis clearance
  11. Here you go, easiest way is to look for the lug thats circled the s2/jzx mounting surfaces are closer to horizontal but not quite, I read alot of things on the net saying they are dead flat which lead me to think i had an s1 cross member
  12. looks like your cressy is an S2? if it is it has the same cross member as a JZX81 and then alloy mounts off a JZX90 work if you flip the sides (left to right, right to left) Ill hunt down the differences in the crossmembers for ya, have a favourite saved somewhere
  13. Mint job dude, makes me wish I still had mine
  14. So got home today to find a box on the porch containing.... they make the other headers look amazing haha spent a couple of hours pondering and moving the motor around and almost got it perfect, going to leave it slighly forward and get the drive and shaft / shifter housing extended unless I can find a remote shift box and it works. I lifted the drivers side 15mm and it now sits nicely off the rack, and clears the master cylinders ok so will lift the other side maybe 10mm to even it out a bit, and go hunting for some bigger rubbers so i dont have to use a stack of washers. if anyone knows of any that around around 85 -> 90mm sing out you can see here why I needed the ugly headers, will eventually get a custom set made up when the $$$s allow THe other side has all the aircon crap in the way (keeping it, just have to switch the top plates over on the compressors and its perfect.. score) but theres stiill enough space to just get my arms in. Heres my trusty helper, making sure I dont screw too much up oh yea, sorry for the crusty phone pics.. I dont own a real camera Tim
  15. mmm x8 hardtop goodness Ive got some springs floating round in the shed that I dont want much for, if your keen giz a PM
  16. cheers fulla. I agree, the hard top is well sexyier, but the old guy down the road from me wasnt keen on letting his mk 2 go for what I paid for this the only bit that appeals to me is the roof wing. If, and I stress IF I do anything to the outside it will be a roof wing and a HNR32 lip on the factory bumper ala this
  17. hey man, ive only got 7mge and suspension / brake parts to get rid of have a look at this if you are keen let me know as i have a few parts i wanna get and could do a deal / combine shipping? Tim
  18. Yours is why I posted this up.. appears to be a little bit of love floating around here for them na JZ screamer should be well fun gday buddy... you forgot "and shoved the 1u in that instead " update.. MA70 LSD is now sitting on the shed floor
  19. I've always liked the X8 shape, so I figured I could kill a few birds with one stone - Ive always wanted to build something with a 1uz in it, I wanted something that I have a bit of fun with the possibility of having a go at a track day, yet still be comfortable and big enough to go away with, and as thegreatestben pointed out they are quite a bit lighter and more nimble than a Celsior anyway... onto the build After getting delivery of the mighty 1UZ and making it go, I trained the thoughts and $$s into making it stop and handle more adequatly than it should hopefully go I got on the tard again and some Ba Falcon Disks, R33 Calipers and BC's made there way into the garage to become this unfortunatly the 15s no longer fitted, and due to the pretty weak +50 factory offset, most of the wheels I liked didnt fit so i settled on a set of fake LM's for the mean time. I set too and bolted it all together, and am pretty happy with then end result, they fill the guards well and dont scream look at me Next was sorting out how to mate the w57 and 1uz together, bearing in mind I want to daily this I settled on a bellhousing and cluctch/fly kit from the cartune company that has the heavier flywheel, 10" 1100kg cover and organic plate.. lost the pic so heres one I prepared earlier Next step was some GX71 pedals which fitted mint, need to find a shorter master cylinder though after filtering through the crap on the American Cressy forums, I found that Excessive Manufacturing made a pair of off the shelf mounts so ordered a pair of these up and bolted them on as I am useless at fabricating stuff Im not sure about the compression post, but cert man was happy. They landed the day before I was off to 'strayla for a work trip so instead of packing i set to and got it in and thats how it sits at the moment.. To get it finished I need to.. Find a smaller brake booster so i can get the motor back further, this will mean the mx83/ga70 mongrel prop shaft will work, there will be more clearance to the steering rack, and the shifter will be centred in the standard tunnel hole Finish the wiring, which is the easiest part for me Hook up fuel / water lines. I have EF fans on the factory rad which should be ok for now Remote the oil filter so it doesnt hit the crossmember Torque up the flywheel / clutch as I didnt have a Torque wrench when I got excited to get it in Sort up a clutch line Sort some headers as the factory ones want to go where my steering column is.. factory Crown logs should work so I'm on the lookout for a set Cert Enjoy?
  20. Hey, Im a long time lurker, and I need some motovation to finish my MX83 so thought I would put my project up to see if it helps I brought My Cressy end of 2010 when I was in Twizel and needed a cruiser to eat up the miles as my 4x4 was getting tiresome He was pretty tidy, had a new headgasket and the 7mge was ticking along smoothly It didnt take long to figure he (Ronald, the nickname given to him by a mate) needed more low I tried some Cobra superlows in the front, and some RT141 kings in the back and he sat a bit better.. but not enough. Standard s15 springs fixed the issue quite well.. 70mm chassis clearance and captive Over the next few months I tydied up a few missing / broken bits of trim, found a nice half wood Momo that fitted with the age of the car and was happy... until the HOS 7m started to flash the oil light at idle after a long drive.. a few more months and a move to Wellington later the light got worse to the point it wouldnt go out below 3000 rpm with 20w50 in there I pulled the 7m with the idea of chucking some bearings, a W5* and a CT26 on the side. got it stipped and found it needed quite a bit more work than i thought and added the $$$s together to a pretend sum that told me if I sold the m series flywheel and bell, I could end up with a 1uz in there mated to the w57 for not much more than a refresh and a low boost setup I scored a W57 from a GA70 for next to nothing and it came the front half of the drive shaft, fork/bearing and a g series bell which alone payed for almost half the box After pissing round a bit, i got and the tard and a few days later this was sitting in my shed another day later it was doing this enough typing... more soon Tim
