  1. I could be convinced on taking a ride.
  2. So what time does that mean you will arrive at the ding/ where ever we are staying?
  3. Also I converted the final drive on this to 4pk multi vee, sooo much better and no slip, would trade again.
  4. Yea na, it's exactly the same principle, except you drill 4 jets each time instead of 1.
  5. Unlikely that it is tuning bro, the car wouldn't have done that when it was running last so in theory it shouldn't do it now. I would concentrate on cleaning the carbs if they are as dirty as you say.
  6. Yea pump jets can get stuck, they were on my Alfa. You probably wouldn't go a miss if you pulled the top off and made sure the float bowl was filling with fuel, the pump jet ball bearing was free and all the jets and passage ways are clean. Also go to http://www.Lotus7.co.nz, there are a bunch of super knowledgeable guys over there on the semantics of them.
  7. Have you checked the idle jets? But seriously I would be surprised if the carbs were in working order after 15 years, they will need a rebuild. For the pump jets you will see fuel squirt into the intake when you twist the throttle shaft. I assume you have googled about DCOEs? http://www.classicrallyclub.com.au/docs/Tips_tuning_Weber_carburettors_DVAndrews.pdf http://www.expeditionlandrover.info/2trSite/WeberDCOEinfo.htm http://7faq.com/owbase/ow.asp?HowDoI%2FTuneWeberCarburettors http://cnx.org/content/m37431/latest/
  8. Yea, before you go replacing jets, I would get the thing running first. I too echo what has been said re float bowls and pump jets. I would definitely rekit the carbs.
  9. Have you spoken to one? They usually will come and have a look for a fee. Also if you are putting in a rack, there really isn't any reason not to do it properly, shortening racks and making tie rod extensions are pretty common place to get this issue right.
  10. Keen, but as I don't know what will be happening at this time, put me down as a maybe.
  11. If you are doing that I dare say the certifier will make you have effectively zero bump, sorry.
  12. That's not true Alex, only if they can prove that the modifications were the cause of the accident will you not be covered.
  13. Whats the possibility of getting a new rack end? TBH I would just chop it off and replace the lot, but I don't have parts issues with any of my cars.
  14. You didn't give us your go-pro/ we were to worried about getting to the pub to take videos. But yea, I think longer bolts with appropriate lock nuts should be the go.
  15. So much MAGIC!
  16. Cheers for the mean weekend everyone involved!
  17. Probably jet it till it runs right haha, there is no magic number. If you don't know how to do it pay someone.
  18. Sure if you jet them accordingly.
  19. You missed the stickers?
  20. Ok just pulled the dizzy cap off, bone dry. Still causing trouble, so on my way to get lunch I stopped off at the local garage (there was a queue of cars that had water trouble) and asked him what's up, he said it would be a wet air filter, made sense so I pulled it out just now and bingo no problem. It must have been running on the air in the intake duct, and once it had exhausted that it would die. Cheers everyone!
  21. Thanks for the pro tip.
  22. Its Digi. It's fine now but may pull the cap off and give it a blast with some compressed air. I still can't figure out why it would go the not, perhaps I'll just have to put it into the box of mechanical mysteries.
  23. Tis what I figured, but it doesn't make sense that it would run fine, and then decide not to?
  24. Ok, thanks to this stupid crappy weather SH1 between my house and work is 4wd spec flooded, I have a fuel injected mk2 golf, and whist driving through the water the car lost power, pulled over to the side of the road and restarted it, it ran fine, reved cleanly etc, for the first 3-5 seconds and then promptly resumed running on 1 and having no power. I waited 5 or so minutes and it cleared up so I figure that it's just water in the electrics, but I thought it was odd that for the first 5 seconds it would run fine, anyone want to have a guess as to what was going on? I don't want a full break down because its fine now, but I'm just curious as to why it would run for a bit then not.
  25. Knew this thread was comming, hahaha!
