  1. Not a lot of options mate. 5 speed from the 3/3.5 or this, the 6 speed from the 4/4.4lt. Plenty of 6 speeds on ebay in the States if you can find a cost effective way to get them here or I think Hellbm has a couple at the moment. Not cheap at a couple of grand though. The 5 speed from the E36/46 328/330 and the E36 M3 is the same as the V8 box but needs a different front casing which is also about a grand from BMW. Somewhere 'round the interwebs there's a guy who used a Transit box with adaptor too I think. Needs a box with a big mouth on it to clear the big arse flywheel. As for software, I dont know a lot about the programming. I know they use a couple or 3 programmes depending on what you want to do. This one isn't yet programmed, apart from removing some of the factory options, and it may not need it. Will see how it drives first.
  2. So, muckin about with this kinda shit Led to this I know it's fucking shithouse, but you get the idea.
  3. Could work quite well for struts without inserts? Saves welding on the shock itself.
  4. Lol, so stupidly awesome. I need me one.
  5. Pretty cool. Gonna need a long shock leader though ha.
  6. Dunno, wont find out this time round either. Stock is pretty shithouse but they'll have to do till I get bored.
  7. It's quite tight But it's in the hole
  8. I guess what we can take from that, is that Lance hasn't been charging enough ha. tbh that doesn't surprise me.
  9. That's quite different from this though Cletus. Lance didn't come anywhere near these prices.
  10. Whoa Cert cost part of mine was $500+design application fees, emissions test, chassis measure ect lifted it to about $1000. If it goes up another $500 odd I wont be bothering...
  11. So, while back I picked up another donor for this thing. It's a V8 mate 4.4 ltr M62 in an E39. 273000ks but seems to run sweet as and was cheap as chips. Car is a f%$@ing mess but that's by the by... And then Managed to get out and make a start on this. First thing to do is reconfigure the car from an auto to a manual. Did this while it was still sitting in the car, which was easy enough, at least it seems that way, I've no idea what they actually do ha. Upshot is that the DME no longer looks for the trans comp and wont send any error messages to the cluster. There is apparently also a software update to give us the correct file for the manual (apparently a slightly different tune/idle control) but we couldn't load it as the DME relates to a 840i not the 540i and they didn't have the correct software and so the DME wouldn't accept it. As I understand it anyway :dontknow: . So to start with we'll be wiring it to neutral. Will make very little difference to the way it runs anyway. Geeks at work. Turns out this early girl from 2/96 is an oddball assortment of leftovers from previous models. Still has EWS 2, as mentioned a DME from an E31, analogue signals from the tach and coolant sensor and a distinct lack of CANBUS, of which only the DME and the EGS (trans comp) are connected on. With the later E46 systems the E30 is running on, this means I'm looking at having to incorporate the older style EWS and most likely the older KOMBI cluster too as the current one is entirely digital/run from BUS. A later donor car probably would have, more or less, plugged straight in but oh well... //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/28233-westys-1985-bmw-e30-alice/
  12. Out of curiosity, what defines a 'non frontal impact compliant vehicle'?
  13. Lacquer's easier to spray and if you don't mind working on it, it can last a long time. It'll always be softer than 2 part paints though which means it's far more easily damaged.
  14. This is my plan when/if I go ahead with the V8 to I6 box. Cant be too hard right? right?
  15. Who are you selling the bits to? Any special contacts or just outta the ol' Trade Me? Have an E39 to get rid of soon.
  16. Yeah, my quick guess on their calc thingie was $215 odd. Ha them. Shurly we can do better.
  17. Any one else got any bright ideas re shipping? Preferably from a North shore depot.
  18. Herro. And just so you know what you're looking at and stuff, here's some pics. Hence $50. No worries if you're going to respray. The electric release is broked too. Do you have a lock barrel to transfer over? Front guard is probably best panel on the car. Also $50. Just looking at covering the cost of the donor car. Also, NZ/Euro spec. Wider plate recess than Jap. Also, also, dont mind dropping into a depot on the Shore with it for ya. Cumbersome alright, might need tips on packing ha. Also again, what plans for it? Curiosity. Oh yeah, and both fogs are broken. Were square style.
  19. Chuckles. This slack bugger really should have formed moulds. Guess it can still be done sposse.
  20. Drove down to Hampton for the Icebreaker last weekend and while there we set it up on the scales. No driver and about 1/3 tank of gas. Around 20 ltrs. A bit more than I was expecting tbh. Also surprised at even weight split front to back.
