  1. Decided I needed to get a bit of big wheeled action. As much fun as the Jog is, its not really cut out for my long frame nor longer distances. So spotted a v50 on the tard and snapped it up. Trip up to Auckland with Geophy and bada bing bada boom Guy I bought it off had it since 2011/2012 at which time he got it off a guy from Te Aroha who worked at the council and drove it to work everyday for 20 years he reckoned. The rego had lapsed at some point so was re-registered in 2012 as a 1989 model but is actually a 79 according to the original rego details (still have a rego tag from 2003). Anyway, reg on hold so all good. Got it home, fresh gas and oil, and fired right up. New battery and a couple of bulbs and all the electrics worked, perfect. Pulled carb to bits and cleaned out, otherwise haven't had to do much which is exactly what I wanted. Next step was to sort out the seat. It came with a new cover, so was going to patch up the foam and redo it factory spec, but the master upholster Greg convinced me otherwise (didn't take much).
  2. Assuming I man up and do a big block swap on my v50, I am so down for this. Will share shit yarns about the waikaremoana power scheme for those willing to listen/I'll tell you anyway
  3. Best piece of advice! Just ride the thing
  4. That place has shut down now which sucks. We used to stay there for work.
  5. Choice Cheers for the advice @AllTorque auto electrician or just general mechanic spec job you reckon? Cbf'd dealing with that shit myself haha
  6. Is replacing brushes still a thing or should I just get a new starter?
  7. Starter motors....the one in our non os car (2002 xtrail) seems to be playing up. Nothing happens when turning the key, but after I gave the starter a love tap it fired right up (for the last few days you could just try a few times and it would go). Brushes in the starter gumming up/worn out I'm thinking?
  8. He already had the doner 3.9 so wants to use it as an upgrade
  9. Asking for a work colleague (actually), does anyone know if the later 3.9 injected rover v8 will bolt in to a rover p6 with the 3.5? I understand the 3.9 is just a bored out 3.5 so should bolt in? Obviously a bit of fun and games making it work with all the extra bits and bobs
  10. That block on the clutch line may be a damper, apparently nissans often have them (my gloria did but was a different shape. it also has a bleed nipple).
  11. A firm handshake and a cold libro is all I need mate.
  12. @Chris.QCR i'll have heaps of space in wagon/on roof anyway and happy to go pickup from @Kimjon and bring down
  13. Bleed = clutch in, open nipple on slave, then close, then clutch out, then repeat? (Like brakes). There is also what looks to be a bleed port part way between the master and slave.
  14. Hmm so there is a threaded rod going into the back of the pedal with a lock nut. Backed the local nut off and shortened the rod by threading it in a bit further. As soon as the pressure left the rod I thought sweet that's done it. But now the pedal is dead/does nothing/is super soft . I even put the rod back to where it was but nothing. Any ideas haha? Started the car in gear with clutch in but it drives off.....
  15. I'll have a dig and see whats there. It's a cunt to get to but I've been meaning to as I have a squeak as well haha
  16. Nah no fee play. It's the same slave and master, gearbox and flywheel as factory. When I fitted the new clutch I remember having to release the pressure (i cracked the nipple on the slave and it spurted).
  17. How does one adjust the bite point on a hydraulic clutch? Mine is basically as soon as you touch the pedal, which doesn't really bother me, but I wonder if it is part of my problem with the clutch slipping under heavy load. Clutch plate and pressure plate were new less than a year ago and it's always been like that.
  18. What for? If it's portable bring to wagnats and I'll take them to greg. Can sort out the return trip another day haha @Mourning Cupcake
  19. Serious question, whats the fuel consumption like compared to a small modern euro diesel? Obviously have to account for RUCs as well but yeh, be interesting too see what the $/km is for both types of vehicles
  20. 2.2(19) of this https://www.lvvta.org.nz/documents/standards/LVVTA_STD_Suspension_Systems.pdf suggests if they are done by a professional then yes they are legal.
