  1. Don't bother with the kits. All they do is divert the spark from the ign coil to a sparkplug in the tail pipe. Apparently it's not good for the bores as the fuel washes the oil off them. Also only works on carbs A better way would be to inject kerosene into the exhaust and then ignite
  2. A rattlegun should have gotten them off piece of piss. I usually powerbar the fuckers without a problem
  3. I'll hopefully make it to the meet somehow I've already got a surge tank and am hoping I can raid the fuel lines from the cressida, power steering isn't an issue yet as I haven't bothered sticking in the new rack. Exhaust is getting a few mods to it anyway, and yep I'll take note of the thermostat. Cheers man
  4. Mmmkay... Bit of an update on what I have(n't) been doing over the last few weeks. The 4m = not good due to the head problem, so that is now out and contaminating my driveway. In its place is now a 5mge that I found in a spare MX73. The initial goal was to have the car running by new years (a time frame of 3 days), and we actually got a fair bit done. Started removing the engine from the cressy at 10pm, had it out by 4am. up at 8am to remove the engine and everything from the crown. Worked till around 2am getting everything we needed ready. Up again at 8 the next day to swap everything over from the 4m to the 5m (sump, oil pump etc). After day 2 however we ran into a kickdown cable problem and gave up, knowing we wouldn't complete it in time and the car remained sitting for ages with no engine collecting dust. This week I finally sorted the cable and got the engine in, so heres some pics for your enjoyment. Donor Waka Frontless Crown 5MGE hanging from a rope My rangi kickdown link made from the ecu mount And the engine finally in the car. Soooo... Still gotta plug everything in on it, sort the wiring, sort the fuel system, sort the cooling, replace the cam belt, and most likely something else I've overlooked. Yay.
  5. Cheers boes, that makes things a bit easier. Hope I don't stuff it up
  6. Engine conversion is currently under way. No pics due to no camera.
  7. Alrighty... My googling has failed, so can anyone hook me up with a 5mge wiring diagram (from an MX73)? Gotta get the criz going asap but millions of wires = Cheers
  8. Whether the idiot light is working correctly is irrelevant as Kimoko says she still has to jump the car every time coz the alternator ain't charging. [/drunk] Check the brushes though, chances are they are worn to stumps.
  9. It charges fine when cold. Once the engine warms up the alternator seems to stop charging. What do that mean?
  10. Idle sits around 800-900, average stereo and dunno if the AC actually works, never tried it. Engine also feels like its lacking in spark. Feels slow and gutless, almost like it has a miss, and then kicks back in. Figured its related to the lack of charge issue but not 100% sure. Apparently it was still doing that before it got a new engine (last one snapped the cam belt).
  11. I'll check the models I have, but I have a pile of them. Literally a pile. I'd say they need new brushes though. Edit: Yep, got 6 or 7 of them, will check which are good and which aren't
  12. Alrighty. I have a '90 Celica which has a weird charging problem. The battery is new, the alternator's been tested and is sweet, yet sometimes at idle the battery light comes on and although the volt gauge doesn't seem to drop abnormally low the car suffers from lack of electricity. Lights dim, engine cuts out etc. I've checked the earths and they seem all good, Alternator belt is tight, I checked the brushes and they look like they've been replaced not too long ago. Any ideas what could be going on?
  13. That engine's never gonna be good bro, and engine work will very quickly add up to well over what a new engine is worth. Padockbash the tits off it, make some cool videos of skids/jumps/4x4ing till it dies, then get your $20 scrap value for the block and buy a box of Doh-bro to celebrate
  14. um why ? Coz it ain't gonna last long at those revs with a major oil problem. You're gonna lose the big ends very quickly
  15. Some thick as oil may slow it a bit, but nothings gonna stop it aside from fixing it properly
  16. AAhaha fuck that awesome!! Photos of cable tie fanbelt plz There won't be a quick fix for an oil leak that big. You'll be looking at completely shot valve guides there. Or BHG of death
  17. better get some vids of 4 wheel skids / smokie engine
  18. Your bonnet = swiss cheese. I'd say slap the engine together and try running it as is and use it as a paddock thrasher. I highly doubt you'll ever get it road legal. Not for less then the price of an already road legal one anyway.
  19. Check your oil pressure to the turbo, as it could be too high as others have said. Do ya know if its ball bearing? Also (copy and pasted ) the oil outlet should be plumbed to the oil pan above the oil level (for wet sump systems). Since the oil drain is gravity fed, it is important that the oil outlet points downward, and that the drain tube does not become horizontal or go “uphill” at any point. I don't know jack about turboes but it does sound like the oil pressure is jamming something up. Maybe even check to make sure no crud has gotten into the oil feed and is jamming the journal when the pressures on? How much resistance is there on the wheel with the oil feed on, and what is the oil flow out of the turbo like? Load the engine up at high revs (i.e b-owts) and see what happens with the boost. Also, add more marmite
  20. Fuck off ya can get it that cheap, the stuff I got was like $28. Fucking did the job though, got me to Napier and back
  21. If it turns over, sparks and gets fuel, then it'll run. Then floor the fucker / b-owts / profit?
  22. $5500 then = $69,000 now Yeah the paint thing is pretty annoying. Seems to have had a respray down the whole side. Meh, just need to save up a few grand for a full respray
  23. Ripped the head off, put head back on, filled with chemiweld, cars running sweet. Anyhoo I decided to give it a polish up. Found that at some stage in the past someone had given it a touchup in a slightly different shade of.. uh.. whatever colour it is. Polish cut though the thin areas nice and quick, leaving a big line where the paint got thicker. Pretty gay, and I can't afford a paint job anytime soon. Also now that it's a bit shinier, ya can really see how warpy the panels are. Oh well. On the plus side, I have some brand new carpets Got this too
  24. I've never been to Palmy, could supply the crown for a box of mac's (if I have it going ) In slight spam I saw a wedding convoy yesterday consisting of a Lucida and a rugged white Civic.. Thats Hamilton for ya
