  1. Still gotta be better than points though
  2. Nah it's all self contained. I'd say all the basic transistor igniters are pretty much the same so there should be a few to pick from. I think all the late 70's chryslers use the same type and they are piss easy to wire, I'd say ford would have something similar, (or maybe lucas )
  3. Yup yup. Could run a higher volt coil and lose the resistor altogether, but then ya won't get the advantage of the higher voltage on cranking. Although I never plugged the starter wire in anyway and have never had a problem when cranking (but then the plugs are still next to new, will most likely make a difference when they wear out a bit)
  4. It basically does the same job as the points, only electronically. The dizzy gives the igniter a signal pulse, the igniter breaks the circuit to the coil and induces the spark. Don't have to worry bout dwell angles and shit wearing out as it's all solid state electrics. Or something near enough to that anyway. Correct me if I'm wrong [edit] http://www.jetav8r.com/Vision/Ignition/CDI.html That has a nice chunk of info
  5. There should be an electronic ignition module ya can steal from something, like a chrysler jobbie or similar, and run an electronic dizzy instead. eg. Simple as really, just need a dizzy that fits your engine.
  6. Wasn't there a game of ballcup going on in the club at some point?
  7. It just gives a fatter spark for easy starting. Not really a necessity, haven't got it plugged in on the hillman and it still fires sweet. As for the rest of the wiring, just chuck anything needed for running on the 'on', and all the less important stz on the acc.
  8. Was about 10 or so mins out of taupo. Was all good though, chucked around the frizbee, chopped some more piss and had a snooze in the sun while cranking eminem
  9. Fuck yes that was magic! Duel drinking games rules everyones faces Nah it's lush oil smoke this time. Lubrication of the tailpipe stz
  10. Fucking mint. We'll be departing somewhere around 3ish, probably drinking the whole way down
  11. No idea at all. It's Keegans, and from what I've heard it ain't a small kit. Think he's borrowing a van to put it in
  12. Sounds like a plan. Probably won't be leaving till latish due to an auckland mish for a drum kit first
  13. I reckon if hamilton guys make it it'll be epic coz we are better than everyone else
  14. So... Your argument is don't ever bother modifying an engine because it'll never be as good as it was factory... Right... A factory engine is the biggest compromise of all. They are tuned to run in any possible condition, many of which they will never even see. This sacrifices power and fuel economy. Retuning a car for its specific purpose will give good gains over a factory tune even if nothing else on the engine is touched. On top of that, not everyone gives a crap how economical or drivable their car is if their goal is more power, or just to be different. Shit, if everyone thought like you, the automotive world would be a very boring place.
  15. ITT: Anything that isn't dead stock runs like ass.
  16. I'm still keen, but lack of money means I need some homies to help pay for gas. I also only have the criz at this stage which is not cheap to operate.
  17. Clamps the hose so the fuel doesn't leak / hose doesn't fall off etc
  18. That is all we need Well me at least. Will supply a frisbee
  19. Something I noticed today. Any idea why one side is higher than the other? Right side Left side The left side is about 4cm higher. The fuel tank sits to the right side, but it's currently empty. Needs paint.
  20. My previously mint straight panels are all fucked bloody assholes. Thats their shoe. Moving on however, I did get a parts car and used the doors from that. Unfortunately the drivers door had rusted out. Same as my green one. What the hell is with that?? The other doors are fine I cannibalized it pretty good. Parts I acquired.. Doors (minus the drivers) Ignition system. The Chrysler Avengers have electronic ignition. Ball joints. Later models have longer ball joints, which improve the handling a bit. Also, mine were poked. Top one is the later model. So some things. That I did. Yeah. Ripped apart the crap wiring and wired up the new ignition. Old V New Pieces of suspension lying around my floor And some Nolathane. The strut bar - chassis mount bushers were the most softest, useless things in the world. These should improve the handling quite well. Still need to upgrade some other parts aswell but lack of cash slows progress. And yeah, that's pretty much it for now. The car's back together and drivable, although it still needs a bit for a WOF. I did paint the suspension parts but put them back in without taking a photo. Just picture them shiny and black and ya get the idea. Still need to sus the rear brakes, and I will probably chuck the exhaust from the parts car in as it is a larger diameter pipe, with a single small resonator, as opposed to a giant restrictive muffler box. Bit of an odd system for a stock 1300, but it should be an improvement over the crappy exhaust I'm currently using. Anyway, till next time..
