  1. Alright, sweet. Yeah would be keen for some DIY stz, but not on this engine. Have a timeframe I wanna try and stick to and would like to avoid fucking anything up. Duel maps is deff not a necessity, but just liked the idea. One tweaked right up for 98 high boost, other a lot softer for shit fuel for when I'm in the middle of nowhere where only mud and sand is available. Link sounds like the way. Still a few months down the track at this stage though
  2. Isn't it just as simple as taking one off, removing the gen regulator unit and slapping on an alternator? Usually multimeters only measure 10-15 amps, alternators put out plenty more then that.
  3. Yeah Link is what I was leaning towards. Something with duel maps would be cool, one for cruise, one for towing/skids
  4. Come on man, skids for kids and all that Just wear a paedobear mask or something
  5. Sooo... Plans for an engine I have lying around involves building up a 5/7M-GTE (5M head, 7M block and turbo) Obviously gonna need an aftermarket computer of some sort to get the most out of it, but I have very little knowledge of the ECU world. Don't need anything overly flash and state of the art, but I do like features. If those of you in the know can give me a rundown on some different systems and what they can do, (and a rough price) that would be mint. Cheers
  6. Can my car do a burnout? Not sure if it's capable.

    fuel cell

Size of tank all depends on how far ya plan on driving before a refuel. From what I know some have built in surge tanks, some run external, so that part depends on what ya buy and what setup you're after. If your engine is carb'd any ol' low pressure pump will do the trick. May or may not need a reg depending on the carb. Also carbs don't usually need a surge tank as they have a float chamber. EFI needs high pressure pump, and either baffled tank or surge tank to stop fueling issues on g's etc. And so on.
  8. Still have yet to see anything to back this up. I'm not into the whole stretch thing myself, I prefer a flatter sidewall, but I just don't like how it's being restricted without any real justification. Show me some stats where stretched tyres caused more accidents then, well, anything at all really, and I may change my opinion of this ridiculous law. But it this stage it just seems completely stupid. Cut / dodgy lowered suspension, yeah. Unsafe. Makes perfect sense that shit like that needs certs, I can think of a few cases off the top of my head where some moron killed himself coz his springs raped his tyres. But every man and his dog goes on about how unsafe stretched tyres are, but yet have never seen a documented case where it has caused an accident. Anyway, cig time. That's still legal, right?
  9. Seems a bit odd considering tyres are a disposable item.
  10. Yeah work and busted tyre as put me out of this one
  11. Have one of these, Fucking fun tools to use, cuts through anything.
  12. Sounds like a plan Will bring a big box of Waikato down with me, just to offend everyone
  13. Probably a high frequency buzz from alternator, the sub amp will have a built in crossover that will eliminate it but the speaker amp will be getting full noise. Usually it'll be coming through the head unit, but if yours was running on a separate power source from the amp, there's the probability of a ground loop issue. Ignoring that however, maybe the noise suppressor on your alternator is fucked out. Generally just a cap of some sort. All your RCA cables in good condition? If the outer earth on them has a problem then that will fuck shit up What sort of sound comes from the speakers? Whine that increases in pitch with engine speed? Or something else?
  14. Yeah def doesn't seem likely, but thicker oil could be causing some issue. Potentially the lifter is just full of crud, could be blocking it so the thicker oil can not escape as easily
  15. In certain circumstances, a lifter can "pump up" and create negative valve clearance so that its valve cannot close. Typically this occurs in the most upper rpm range of an engine, and limits the engine's performance. Lifter pump-up is serious, as there may be interference of the valve with the piston or, burned valves may result. In all cases it is important to follow the manufacturer's recommendations for oil viscosity and quality.
  16. Does this really need to be posted in two different places?
  17. Every day? That is some impressive progress you are making there! Scares me to think that I one day have to do that to my own car...
  18. Could drag the BBQ to the gardens and everyone brings something to slam on the grill / drink etc Thursday is my late night however, usually don't finish till 7-7:30 ish, but keen
  19. Got it running after replacing half the ignition system, replacing the starter motor and repairing the throttle linkage. I have no idea how the fucking thing made it back from Wellington. The throttle linkage broke in 2 places when trying to start it the next day, the starter motor blew up and the coil was fried. She's running fucking mint now though
  20. You may want to learn something about cars before posting.. Dunno what your electric system is, but an ignition relay may be sticking on which would prevent the car shutting off. Disconnecting the battery won't stop it as the alternator will still provide the power. Otherwise ignition switch could be dodgey, there could be a short somewhere within the ignition wiring. There's a lot of places to look really, might just have to check through process of elimination.
  21. Make some out of cardboard, modify till they fit exactly where you want them, then use as templates to make real ones. Repeat a few times till you finally get some that fit correctly Do skids Win.
  22. 185-60 is alright on a 7" Then run some 215's on the back or some shit
