  1. might be flogging a dead horse by now, but RS-Watanabe has a useful wheel-to-vehicle matching guide on their site - http://www.rs-watanabe.co.jp/mathing.htm (run it thru a translator if needed) much better than my DR30, which has some pretty fucked up 'recommended' offsets.
  2. happy new year, etc. went for the first decent road trip since A1GP 2007 in the sedan, and it passed with flying colours. Tauranga over New Years = so many monkeys. Avoided the mount like the plague and managed to stay out of trouble for the most part. No the stocko wheels aren't on the rear for skids... I've sent the Ewings away for repairs. When they come back I'll stretch some 205s on springs have finally settled too, so it's time for a wheel alignment. Tramlines like all hell at the moment, and the rear tread is a bit sketchy.
  3. Sedan's xmas mini update... exhibit A: new shocks and springs fitted all round. rear wheel camber amount = comical exhibit B: the stupid little part which has been causing me grief all year. as it turned out, Hart Auto Electrical in Papakura did have some Bosch aftermarket units to suit Nissan FJ20ET sitting on their shelf after all. feels liek a whole new car to drive, amazing the amount of power it now has on-tap and it's still only running ~0.4 bar. Quite tempted to hike up the boost a bit while I save up for big turbo goodness. but now that that's out of the way it's back to finishing my TX3 track car project.
  4. oh dear, an 80s throwback party? Can't miss this one, see you there I'll even wear a horrid pastel tie
  5. Hirequip do them for about the same per day ($60ish), and they have two or three different sizes. what sort of car are you moving? that 131 racecar? could get away with dolly towing ($45/day) if it rolls.
  6. mad, made it to repco and got an oil filter before they shut. Now if the oil itself hasn't arrived at the workshop in Hamilton, then fuck, I'm afraid I won't be racing on Monday 20W50 is such an oddball grade, it was gonna take at least 3 days to arrive phil if you keen to cruise around there tomorrow give us a text, I'll PM you the number/address etc
  7. A31 factory turbos are 4-stud, but the discs will be interchangeable with e.g. S14 regardless of stud pattern on hub. In the end I just went for a shortened OEM shock setup combined with some springs from japan (since NZ offerings are SHIT) and that worked a treat for the DR30.
  8. swapped the standy rims onto the sedan, so the 15x8 Ewings have ended up on the back of the coupe instead. just a temporary solution until I can get the tyres swapped onto the 15x6.5 SSRs before trackday, but 215/60/15 might be a tad too tall for my liking... If I wanted to keep the Ewings on, the guards need to be rolled a bit more than they already are - both sides scrape heinously, but the LH side more so than RH.
  9. i'm gonna be doing all the last minute stuff on the Strioweupwline on saturday in Hamilton + staying the night, so I might meet up with you guys at the base or wherever you decide to rendezvous on Sunday. Probably won't convoy down though, was planning to leave for Taupo later in the afternoon (around 4pm) and just go straight to Testament's
  10. well, ordinarily I would agree... but I have a certain emotional attachment to that TX3, having owned it for the last six years yeah I'm a soft bugger at times sent the sedan off on the back of a truck yesterday to have its ignition problems sorted out, so it should be all ready to accept the angry big power turbo when the time finally comes...
  11. I hear the IRS is a right cunt to swap into the aussie spec R31s Oh, and r31skylineclub.com is a good place to start, followed by skylines AU. (ironically, SDU doesn't really factor into the equation as far as older skylines are concerned)
  12. ^^ heheh, awesome. Nick swears that he saw a photo of my sedan on R30map.com before it went down (biggest giveaway is the sticker on the front) angry big power FJ20 plans are on hold now, received the quote for panelbeating and painting my TX3 and it's nasty but should happen eventually
  13. New springs for the sedan have arrived hot off the plane from Japan these are identical to the ones I fitted to the coupe. you can see why the shocks need to be shortened - here they are compared with the old (super hard/super low) ones I'm selling Rear: Front: also scored this neat keyring holder for the princely sum of 800 Yen. At 1:72 it's slightly smaller than my 1:64 Kyosho model, and really nicely detailed, but pity the seller had run out of red ones next stage of fun: fit the springs/shorten shocks (or possibly replace them, as the front left is knocking), and rip the dizzy off so I can get a new optical CAS shoehorned in.
  14. oh yeah, forgot about the BEAMS. If you can find one for less than one million, you could fully do that instead. plus you get to keep the N/A style alive Toyotas have so many options its amazing
  15. 3T-GTE would be mean, and turbo engines are ridiculously easy to coax more power out of... intercooler (use wazza's supra one?), bigger turbo, exhaust and more poost etc. That's pretty much what I'd call bang for buck the other options are also good but probably more hassle to drop in since they're not "made for the chassis" like the 3T was. $$ factor too I like the Carina front, but then again I like oddball '80s shit
  16. That's awesome. now that's what I call tasteful modification
  17. did some inquiring, turns out the horde of capris is owned by Marshall Transmissions, which should have been obvious to me from the start (they is the crowd with the RS3100 rally car)
  18. Leased some vehicle storage space recently, went to inspect the place last week and the old tenants hadn't yet moved their cars out. Counted seven Capris in differing states of repair Thought to myself, "damn, treggo would love this place" was gonna get some pics, but the cars were gone when I came back this weekend just been
  19. Couple more paydays, and I can afford this beasty for the sedan... http://cheapturbo.stores.yahoo.net/garrettgt3076r.html
  20. yeah, mint to know everything's going according to plan so far
  21. mm not a great fan of Federals but I'll consider it... gotta find some new rear tyres for the watanabes that are going on the sedan. Found some second hand 205/60R15 FM901s for the front of the coupe (as seen in the last two photos), and gonna put the 215/60R15 FM901s off the sedan on the back so I'll have matching rubber all round. playing the wheel game is always fun
  22. I see I'm not the only one who stuck some meshies on their R30 in the weekend...
  23. Tunrs out you can't fit +15 offset 15" wheels on the front of a DR30 without fouling them on the calipers so $20 and a pair of 5mm spacers later... next step... fit the rears.
  24. Sedan all clean again. Thanks to the SLIPWAY guys for letting me use their back yard as a photo studio and the use of the garage to see if I could get the dizzy off without resorting to a hoist and removing half the intake manifold (sadly, the answer was no - so I'll be getting the car towed to my mate's workshop next week) btw, it broke down on the way home. I live 1km from the slipway house
