  1. yep am aiming to be sleeping in this at rangiwoods. Just need a bit more rust work, drop the engine into it, get new flange welded onto exhaust, and recore/replace radiator. But I've got ages till nats though, right?
  2. Cut, weld, cut, weld, drink, cut, weld etc. both sides pretty much done now, which is just as well since I ran out of gas for the welder. Will have to get a refill as I need to attack the rust that's lurking below the rear bumper, which will be interesting cause I find it really hard to weld upside down.
  3. just to fill in the timeline gap: Replacement block was sourced through Fueeeel. Got a hone and new bearings, reassembled and after a couple of trips back to Hastings the thing was back in action. Has been pretty good apart from some carb troubles and losing water from somewhere. Managed to let it overheat a couple of times, which leads me to present day - got a bit hot on the motorway, pulled over to take a look and top up water etc and noticed poo brown milkshake oil. Grr.. Got the head looked at - as it turns out I could have spotted the issue pretty easy had I had a look. Here's a photo of my big gaping crack: (NSFW) Bought a new head and will be installing it this weekend.
  4. Thought I'd better make use of this nice dry weather we're having and crack into some of the rust on this thing. here's some! don't know if I'm gonna be able to get this back in.. slapped some POR15 into the holes Procrastinated too much today so this was as far as I got. New steel goes in tomorrow.
  5. RIGHT, so almost a year later - I still own this beast. Joker was kind enough to lend me his trailer after Hawkes Boes, and KK and his grunty Commodore towed it from Ashhurst to our new place in Wellington. Bless. Some time later I scored a cheap 12R that is supposedly in good running condition, got it back home and then more time passed... Until today, when I finally mustered some motivation and cracked into the first half of the engine swap; getting the engine out. Wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, and with Amber helping we got it out in about half an hour. Now I have a large space where the old engine once was. Next steps are, clean up the engine bay, get the new engine in. Then once that's done, I need to sort out the exhaust, which is broken/rusted out. Should really get the radiator re-cored, and of course fix lots of RUST!!!!
  6. thanks guys - kk: 2 piece adaptor sounds interesting, I hadn't thought of doing it that way. But yeah to keep things simple I think I'll get the holes filled and redrilled. OR I could just slot the holes in the carb.. Hmm decisions, decisions.. by the way, this is my build thread you silly geese! discussion izt here: //oldschool.co.nz/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=12230
  7. yeah not sure how because the stud patterns are so similar - there's only a mm or two each way. So as far as I can tell the bolts would clash.. but I dunno - you tell me, you're the engineery type!
  8. I've had this Weber 30 DGS carb lying around for a while now. Bought it reconditioned from Weber specialists up in Auckland. It's originally from a Citroen GS. Only problem is it's mounting bolt pattern is only just slightly different to the original carb, so making an adaptor plate would be difficult. So I was thinking of getting someone to weld the holes on the intake manifold and re-drill to suit the carb. Other option would be to widen and slot the holes on the carb, which seems a bit rough. Who knows someone who could weld aluminium for me? Other suggestions?
  9. DROOOOOOOL!Kghhgabblrarrrrrfgh I just jizzed with my mouth those wheels are gonna look AMAAAZING!!
  10. yep I'm down this sounds real cool! My shed would be a short visit but it's reasonably close to Borgweisers place / central
  11. That brings us to today: made some new footrests after the old ones got a bit munted and broke replaced the brakes cause some really handsome guy crashed it at the taupo drome and somehow bent the old ones! so, a quick rundown on things so far, and some more photos: 47cc chinese screeching-eagle scrub cutter 2 stroke mini-motorcross reduction box, chain and 44 tooth rear sprocket pit bike exhaust and throttle grip wheels are from some kids bike and tires are for some fancy baby pram Edit: also replaced the raleigh 20 sprung seat for this ^ from my 10-speed. The sprung seat was way too bouncy for the wellington track, although now I will have to endure bruised gooch
  12. Hey here's a thread about my velo-scooter! Firstly, some catch up from the velodrome thread: oh orrrsome! cheers bro - bell ID is 78mm, 21mm deep. Clutch shoe(?) is 19mm wide. umm, bolt spacing is about 53mm, and the length of the shoe surface is about 170mm. In the meantime, I've bought some 1/16" gasket, which I will attempt to glue to the shoes. Will contact adhesive burn? yeah probably could find someone to re-line them, but trying to keep this project minimal spend if I can, so hopefully this works: edit: and yeah, Yowzer if this doesn't work then direct drive it shall be! Started redesigning the weedscooter last night - progress: Suzuki love Waiting on a new chain and rear sprocket to turn up. Seems that the output sprocket on the gearbox is 8mm pitch, while the chain I bought the other day was 1/4" (#25). seating position feels pretty good, just need a footplate or a pipe for footrests. IT LIVES AGAIN! Now with 80% more weld and 40% more seat. When is next Wellodrome meet? so, just bought a "two stroke exhaust" from trademe. http://www.trademe.c... ... 959722.htm hacked it up to suit the bike and discovered the expansion chamber wasn't quite made like I imagined. The exhaust pipe carries on about a third of the way into the chamber.. I had imagined the exhaust pipe should stop as soon as the chamber starts, so that science happens and I go faster. Currently, I can only see it working as a muffler. Would that be correct? did a little bit of saturday work on the scooter today: Muffler is removable for racing. Thigh warmer is warm. Bring on winter droming. Also, I've ordered a 44 tooth rear sprocket from ebay uk. Will hopefully gain a few kph over the 54 I've got on there now. Look what arrived today! Parts overnight from ebay uk stz Put it on the bike and took it for a blat up the road. Definitely a fair bit faster, lost a little acceleration but not too much. took the scooter for a hoon around the Feilding track today. Track was pretty meh due to not being very banked at all. Scooter wasn't that much faster with the smaller sprocket, but I think I need to have a play with the mixture knob to get more out of it. There was a sign on the fence which was mostly unreadable but it said something about not riding motorbikes or risk prosecution etc.. So in general, pretty shitty track. There's one in Marton I might check out some time soon. Track was 433 meters according to some website, and a lap took 30 seconds. This equates to 52kph which is OK I guess, but I was hoping for more.
  13. I won't be able to make drome nats, but keen for heaps of testing now that the evenings are light!
  14. I have a spare seat if anyone wants a ride up Friday night (seat will be occupied on the return trip however.)
  15. keen +1 last year I was in a hotpool in Hanmer springs, year before that I was in Japan. Third time lucky, and I'll make it to Swapmeet.
  16. umm... I leave this weekend, and probably won't be able to come up next Thursday. But then I'm also busy THIS Thursday. So I'll have to just send Amber in my place instead. Or see some of you at Seedy's Wag Regionals this weekend?
  17. Yeah was kinda thinking that - I do have some gold hammerite left in a tin too.. but then my brake gear is painted gold so that might look weird. I've put tires on them now and am just gonna run them as is, and maybe paint once these tires need replacing. Will take a photo tomorrow. Car is half an inch lower, but also half an inch more guard gap now, so might have to do something about that.
  18. Yep, think I'll just roll them as is. Gonna get someone to fit the tyres tomorrow. Stay tooned for pics.
  19. Had these wheels lying around for a while, they're 12" Contessas from an Austin. Thanks to azzurro for hooking me up with the wheel nuts I needed. I'm going to get my 145/70's from the stock steels put on them, but question is - should I paint them first, and if so - what colour?
  20. I have a single phase motor for sale, not sure if it would be suitable? I think it's 1 hp. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =477333390
