  1. DGR LYFE (thanks to my photographer www.stephenfield.co.nz )
  2. Sounds sooo much better IRL now that I have removed the baffles. When opened up it really does sound like a swarm of angry bees. Loud pipes save lives Saw a cool RX-2 bridgey cruising the streets on Sunday too so I gave it some stick to catch up with the guy. We both appreciated each others machines and probably annoyed a few Yank lovers / Hippies both at the same time. I got light headed when I first got this started again too leaving it running in closed garage. Dumb idea, carbon monoxide kills - and fast.
  3. Yeah man, that was me. I don't think I'm working and if not I will pop along.
  4. Then got the final piece to the puzzle; Timed up, re-checked some stuff. Smoked myself out of garage and now; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sJOsUJkAOw Plenty of time to fit a new chain and conduct some road testing
  5. Yes it is Maxwell Paternosters design, his artwork is awesome and I hope I don't piss him off then! Imitation is the best form of flattery right? I saw it on a mean raw BSA on some bike blog. Nick, I have spoken to other GT185 owners and it seems despite the displacement and factory advertising, they rarely can achieve over 100km/h so will be sweet. Revin was easy, just had to clean some switch contacts and tighten swing arm. They tried to fail me on front axle nut not having a split pin but showed them a factory manual showing it was original 1973 spec.it was easy because it was still on the NZTA system having expired in 2006. Probably no spanny chambers, I'm happy with it being finished. I will ride for a while then sell, onto the next one. It's not as cool as an RD. The paint is like a solar system, it's so deep and intense, it's better IRL. Total cost for paint job inc paint/clear/vinyl was $150. If I had the same job done all at paint shop it would be over 500.
  6. Episode 3 Well, I quite like the look of yellow headlights, spent ages trying to find one here or in Europe where they seem to be used a lot. No luck. Then I stumbled upon people using this I saw Supercheap sells the same line however only ever advertising red/blue/silver. I tried my luck today and found a can. Then did it Before; After 4 coats; I'm not 100% on the idea, I think it has a lot to do with the fact that the headlight is massive. Well it will do for DGR, will look at smaller options another day. Pic showing seat action (which still operates on factory hinges / clip) ;
  7. Episode 2; I had me some Krylon metal flake cans and a blank canvass - naturally I hit it. Krylon first, what absolute crap to spray, it took me ages to work out that basically the can needs to be shaken constantly to get the glitter to come out. Then I went waaaaaay to heavy before realising my heavy handedness. It felt rougher than 40 grit sandpaper when I had done!!! Cue friendly painter who clearcoated at least 5 coats! He laughed when he saw how much glitter I had hit it with. I felt like a douche but he said he would clear coat it for me and see how it goes. Then I rubbed it back, and rubbed it back again with 800grit wet. Plenty of runs when it was sooo thick with clear! I decided to use some custom stickers so printed out some off an internet pic that I loved. Then I got Archetype (shameless plug shout out to his custom vinyl!) to make the pictures into some stickers. Archetype put up with my perfectionist ways and could not be happier with final vinyl. Then stickers made, I applied them and went back to painter for final 2 coats of clear. Mind = blown. The level of sparkle is freakin insane in the sun; Stay tuned for episode 3
  8. Thought I better do a write up on this. I am madly trying to get it ready for DGR in Welly on the 27th. I bought it from Hastings a couple of months ago. It was on the Tard but it had sold cheaper than I expected and I missed the boat. A couple of weeks later the bike was up again with a lower buy now. I hit buy now within minutes. I travelled to Hastings and picked it up from the nicest couple ever. The old owner had done a crap load of work to get it where it was but it just needed finishing and recomplying for registration / wof. The dude that hit buy now the first time used the 'My Mother is terminally ill and needs money' trick after wasting their time for two weeks. They were so nice and so hospitable they made me crackers with pickle for lunch and we spun a few yarns. Basically he was selling it because of a back injury and had turned his mind to restoring a car instead. This is how he got the bike ; And after an incredible amount of work, I got it like this; Take my hat off to him, a huge amount of polishing and work was done. The plastic part behind the seat is off a later version of the same model just moved forward about 6 inches. The seat was custom made and works perfectly. SOOOO, super stoked with it, I got it reregistered / WOFed and rode it for a bit. I decided to give it a birthday as the jets were standard and therefore too small since the pod filters were added. Dumb idea. This thing has cursed me ever since. Once back together it had the symptoms of an air leak and I have taken the carbs off and on at least 10 times since then. Cue new plug caps, plugs, intake rubbers, points.... argh! I busily tried very very hard to have it running right before the QCR welly meet not that long ago. I thought I better test ride it the night before and glad I did as it ran like an absolute dogggg. Boy was I pissed off that weekend, was keen as to roll in Welly and I missed an epic ride. SO, then I have been going hard for the DGR ride.
  9. Nice pics, cameraman got skills. Some bikes you never have issues with and others are absolute pigs. Keep up the good work.

    So when I had the bike running with my own loom mods, it was just after I rewired the Dyna electronic ignition to receive full power via a relay. However, since I want this bike complete, combined with my perfectionist issue, I have tidied up a hell of a lot of the loom. There were some shitty connections, and the handlebar controls were waaaay to long due to the position of the factory high rider bars. I have also removed a couple of things like the factory position light (as this is a Euro model.) I did consider buying a Motorgadget M-unit however they are just too expensive for me to justify. I have changed my mind on the Speedo after having a bike with no rev counter, I would def rather have one. I really wanted a Motogadget unit but they are just too damn expensive. I settled on an Acewell unit. It has an electronic pickup that will read from the factory speedo cable output on the front wheel which is kewl. I am wiring it up so that it plugs into the factory loom. Pictures to come. Spent plenty of hours on this over the last week or so. I hope to have going for the DGR in Welly next month however if I don't get there in time I will def have running by summer! This is the after pic, compare it to the previous loom explosion pic; Buying a proper crimper is highly recommended. Now the loom looks factory again. I always hated those little blue/red crimps that fall off all the time. Check out the four handfuls of extra wire I have left over;
  11. Grey one in welly is owned by Clive, rb20det powered and came from Oz. It's a c110 hardtop not c10. I have owned 3 x c110s. 2xhardtop and 1xsedan (subsequently heavily modified into dark grey one) Sold my best one for a mint as a rolling shell. It's moved to gizzy with a ton of other members old dattos including Aaron's Gloria and the c110 sedan. Prices of old skylines have skyrocketed. C10 never sold here,only ones are private import. Limited c110 came in as special dealer order only and not many came because 240z was similar price but more widely liked. So awesome, well done
  12. Where did you get your vac / pressure tester from?
  13. Well Suzuki are the cheapest I have discovered of Suzuki, Yamaha and Kawasaki. I'm getting new intake rubbers outta Japan for my GT185 and they $15 nz each. You did pick one of the rarest.
  14. I see pros and cons for the idea. If it was a real good bunch of mates it would work best. If I was involved I would have to trust all the others. But then like the others on here I would only really be interested if I got access to big equipment that I just can't fit - hoist, lathes etc. Personal experience tells me it was hard enough having to manage a workshop with staff who were being paid to use the supplied tools. but even then (and I am sure others who have worked in a workshop or own rental properties will attest) some people just don't give a shit about other peoples things or milk privelages to the maxxx. Common issues; Shit gets broken and no one owns up Shit gets left in a mess People "borrow" stuff that never shows up again People hog time at certain things to do work for everyone else (perkies for their mates.) As I am writing this I am convincing myself it won't work without the right people. As I said before the difference between supplied tools, paid to use them and supplied tools paying to use them is going to lend people to have some sense of entitlement to do more with them for longer.
  15. Your message is not clear whether; 1) You are just doing a plan for a Uni paper (so you only intend to discuss Dungeons and Dragons style) or 2) Actually considering setting up a community DIY workshop Might help if you said what city you were actually talking about too. A real one, would be a primo idea.
  16. rotary valve reminds me of wankel spec, can you bridgeport? I have been reading up on rotary valve, they sound ideal but limiting with engine size due to carb location. Awesome progress. Carry on.

    Want this sorted by Distinguished Gents Ride (Sept 29) But my loom exploded
  18. Wow, that is cool and rare. Parts might be an issue though? Are they 100% Bridgestone or did they fleece someone else's engine to use in their frame? (like villiers 2 smokes being used in almost every British brand bike)
  19. shit pic but you get the idea. Got some gears out of Japan (tank and footpegs) 3 colours like Neopolitan. Tank does look mint in this photo but its not. The side covers and seat will probably go for good. Spansion chambers bolt straight up (guy I got it off was not 100% these were for this bike or another) You know your a hoarder when you put stuff back on unrestored bikes to make more room under benches for stuff.
  20. Bare bones. Have this AS3 / RD125 frame; And these; And a I have a RD125 engine (just no pics yet.) Just need some other bits. Think I have the tank sorted, I am going to remove factory airbox / clear out triangle section of crap, run on premix and fab up a seat. Need a headlight, front fork staunchions etc. etc. Not 100% on what direction to take. Just want it light and loud I had a Yammy LS2 100cc twin two stroke not that long ago and loved it for fanging around town. I miss it. Ideas?
  21. Pulled a neck muscle snapping a perv, it certainly stands out! Well done. Plans? A15 big block with sidies?
  22. That factory looking colour is just plain awesome. I'm sure it is this car I saw going the other way on Hutt Motorway after the Hutt riverbank hardpark a couple of months back?
  23. I see 'big al' has another AX100 in stock if you need parts
