well at least many options that don't have some sort of absurd scene tax added. Hence Chevettes. But even they seem to be rare and going up in value now. I guess also some fiats/some other boxy lada like creatures/skodas.
-
If I build a race car one day it would probably be Chevette/Gemini based. This dude is selling some nice bits in one lot... https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/specialist-cars/other/listing/3124554302?bof=h6ncXq1S

You could bring an Avenger? I hear you might have one or two....

Oldschool Nelson race car challenge...

Micra it is then...

Yeah I'd be super keen to build a cheap as race car (probably a Chevette/something small) and have a go. I always wonder why some of the rich buggers about Nelson/upper south don't throw a bit of money into it. It would be an asset to the Tasman region I think. The plans they have mooted are more than just a race track- mtb tracks too and designed to cater to a family day out.

Oh cool. Yeah I fancy going along for a look. There's a ford you have to drive through to get into the park? I wonder if its too much for my Imp (especially with all the rain we've had) Might take a Micra if that's the case.

Well since there's not a huge amount of interest in Rabbit Island how about we make this Sundays out at Kohatu? (I think the weather is meant to be a bit 'non-bbq friendly this weekend anyway- ideal for cars on a dirt track though...) I am quite excited at the prospect of potentially seeing @ThePog mobile race around the Xcross course. Good idea?

@NickJ is a good dude like that. I'm sure his landie also left an oil puddle on your driveway as an extra gift

Yep too right! Why not. Would be good for us and for the car club.

So far I have received 4 likes, an old oil filter, an out of date repco catalogue, a can of v and a reluctant pat on the back. What else can we do? Perhaps promise that there will be a K11 turn up?

OK oldschoolers of Nelson area - I have just been nudged by Dylan @ThePog and reminded of the time. Yeah its about time we organise a meetup, have a bbq and discuss the finer points of old car ownership etc It could be the usual rabbit island meet because its easy, close enough to most, has bbqs and ample parking. No date will suit all but how about we aim for the week Sunday - that will be Sunday the 13th, say at 12pm If anyone here knows someone who fits the bill for the oldschool way ie - does not take themselves too seriously then bring them along. Calling @ynot @Willdat? @Gozza @Slacker_Sam. @avengertiger @moparmuppet @CPR Sierra @maxted @Sanfiddy @2sik25 @scooters @Paulluap @AttySlungGatty @dirty_leppa @JasonO @footey @nzvohc @GMH63 @mattj

Yeah @johnny.race check your reg is a good one- often they come with cheapie regs that dont flow smoothly at low rates and flutter. Get the type that has the vertical gauge with a ball. I run my gas as low a rate as I can as its a waste to use any extra. Don't worry about not having a foot pedal. If you can practice and improve using it without it'll be a load better for using the tig in awkward places and positions where there is no way to use a pedal etc.

Fuck I bet you're loving having a hoist now!!! Looking good.

DAD's 1984 Hino fire appliance house truck pikey project
yoeddynz replied to DAD's topic in Project Discussion
Even with a normal sleeper cab you can see here on our Hino how much the cab comes up in height as it swings... Here's a pic looking forward with the insulated bedroom floor lifted and cab swung through. You can see the rope and pullys at the front. Hinge for the floor was roughly 300mm ahead of the head board iirc.... Sort of make out the room needed for the front of the cab to swing through... You could always have a lightweight floor that lifts straight up, a rope and pulley in each corner. Avoid the hinge and then have plenty of room for the rear of the cab to swing up. Or make the whole house removable on legs and move the truck out from under for full access. You'll barely ever need to tilt a cab on a Hino anyway
