Well since there's not a huge amount of interest in Rabbit Island how about we make this Sundays out at Kohatu? (I think the weather is meant to be a bit 'non-bbq friendly this weekend anyway- ideal for cars on a dirt track though...) I am quite excited at the prospect of potentially seeing @ThePog mobile race around the Xcross course. Good idea?

OK oldschoolers of Nelson area - I have just been nudged by Dylan @ThePog and reminded of the time. Yeah its about time we organise a meetup, have a bbq and discuss the finer points of old car ownership etc It could be the usual rabbit island meet because its easy, close enough to most, has bbqs and ample parking. No date will suit all but how about we aim for the week Sunday - that will be Sunday the 13th, say at 12pm If anyone here knows someone who fits the bill for the oldschool way ie - does not take themselves too seriously then bring them along. Yeah @johnny.race check your reg is a good one- often they come with cheapie regs that dont flow smoothly at low rates and flutter. Get the type that has the vertical gauge with a ball. I run my gas as low a rate as I can as its a waste to use any extra. Don't worry about not having a foot pedal. If you can practice and improve using it without it'll be a load better for using the tig in awkward places and positions where there is no way to use a pedal etc.

Just change your modes of transport to suit the conditions.....

Even with a normal sleeper cab you can see here on our Hino how much the cab comes up in height as it swings... Here's a pic looking forward with the insulated bedroom floor lifted and cab swung through. You can see the rope and pullys at the front. Hinge for the floor was roughly 300mm ahead of the head board iirc.... Sort of make out the room needed for the front of the cab to swing through... You could always have a lightweight floor that lifts straight up, a rope and pulley in each corner. Avoid the hinge and then have plenty of room for the rear of the cab to swing up. Or make the whole house removable on legs and move the truck out from under for full access. You'll barely ever need to tilt a cab on a Hino anyway

Ha ha - I'd just edited my previous post after I looked that up too So I wonder if there is anyway I can locate the truck?

OK as promised... my old collection I have just pulled from storage and dusted off. The Ferrari 246. Bought the kit cheap, apparently never opened, on ebay and discovered the windscreen is missing. Fuck. Will still build it and learn how to form some clear plastic. I think the kit is still available out there anyway. Not sure. Will be neat to have on display because I think they (well actually the non gts version) were one of, if not the most beautiful cars ever built. This Scania I built in my early teens. Its a bit broken and needs tlc but I'll always keep it for display. Funny how when I bought this kit it was a fairly new truck on the market.... Finally my big model truck project. Started with a sleeper cab kit but I wanted to do a replica so carefully chopped the cab down in all directions to suit the TNL freighting skip truck I wanted to replicate... I would ride my bike down to the TNL yard which was a couple of blocks away from home and take photos... "oh hey Bruce- here's that weird kid again, taking photos of the shitty old skip truck"... I also took loads of measurements and did drawings while there of the various bits. I really wanted to get the model as realistic as possible. "fuck me Wayne- that kid is back on that truck and he's measuring things".... Sadly (for me..) the truck is no doubt off the road now I imagine * Interior was detailed as per the original... Now I cant remember my exact age as to when I had last worked on this model. I now know exactly when because when just taking these pics I spotted inside that I had added a scribble on a fake notepad, some initials of me and my old girlfriend, Caroline. Hannah finds this thoroughly amusing .... I am totally looking forward to getting stuck back into these models but, like old Man down south, it will be a 'later on' project because there's so many other things I wanna finish first. I could see the value in some sort of easily movable hobby setup where I could just close a lid and put the whole lot away somewhere safe.
