  1. yeah that's the man. Have you spoken to him about the magnum he's splitting? It could be just what you need.
  2. Pretty much done all the wiring now. I have begun the 'list'. I'm sure many of you know what I mean. As I get close to finishing a car I start faffing from one small job to the next and always end up never finishing them for reasons like not having the bits needed etc. So I always end up making a list of remaining jobs to do and parts to get. The list is not too long- in fact the main thing stopping me from starting engine would be lack of air filter/ battery to be fitted in boot and no oils etc in engine/box yet. I'm struggling to find a pod filter that will fit- I know there will be one out there but I dont/cant pay big K&N sort of money. I have ordered a fuel pressure gauge so I can set up regulator. The Su carb will only need 3psi. I dont want constant flooding. This morning I spent several hours filing the sharp edges from my widened steels, filling any big dents/marks and sanding them. They now have several coats of filler primer and on thursday I will paint them. Cant wait to fit em!!! This evening I fitted an HC viva 'organ type' throttle pedal assembly. I then discovered that the cable pull from it wasn't enough to fully open carb so I have chopped and welded up a new shortened cable pull thiingee on the carb... I now get full throttle. The HC pedal feels nice- much better than the top hinged annoying standard HB one. I need to mount the new carter pump, filter, malpassi regulator, mount battery box and fill engine with oil. then maybe it'll be start up time ;D But away for some more hiking in the mountains over next two days so it will have to wait till thursday...
  3. red is faster- that's why fire engines, Ferraris and the Red arrows are all..... red. So I aggree- starlet wins. But fuck me- no one had cars when i was at school. Only bikes. Not fair. That said- most kids are really fat these days so guess it all evens out eh..
  4. sweet- I'll see what my springs are like and then maybe go altezza..
  5. Looking good- glad to see you have your mojo back for this car.
  6. If only to see three vivas in a row at the top of the list....
  7. Good score!!!! I've a friend in Nelson (another Viva nutter) and he is about to split a complete 1800 magnum. I can ask if he wants to ship all the bits up to ya. I will try to get him to post up his cars (HB GT and a Firenza coupe just like yours) in build threads as ya cant have too many Vivas in one place alex
  8. Wow- just got back from a week in the wilds and first thing I check is oldschool. Great to see not one but two more vivas on here!!! Looks good on the track with the tail out. How low does it sit compared to normal and what springs are you using? Keep the updates coming! One day maybe... Vivas might just become popular....
  9. yeah hannah had an imp- her first classic. But not many here it seems. Just fancy trying a mini. Will book in a drive in yours once its done!
  10. Wow- I've missed this thread somehow. Fucking great work your doing there! 2 door mk1s must be quite rare in NZ? I only see 4 doors about. And not many of them. keep the updates coming- looking forwards to seeing this one on the road!!!!
  11. they look wicked- little tiny things. I'm guessing they only fit under 13" wheels? I will have to own a mini in the future. Or another imp.
  12. Cool- very tempting. That is a very fantastic offer you've put up mr lego man. I will have to see how Viva goes and what happens with us and truck. We are already 4 months late on getting housetruck finished and moving south to Queenstown. Hannah may be taking a local job here which will see us staying top of south till about may anyway so if thats the case then yeah!
  13. I'd love to get up to nats but spending heaps recently and still not working, spending money on the ferry is a bit steep at the MO. Are the nats always in north island or does it swap over ?
  14. A while yet- hannahs mum is over from blighty so doing holiday things. Tramping able tasman next week. Cant wait to fire it up though!!! Will have to sort it soon as its back to housetruck work once hannahs mums gone Bloody wiring taking longer than i thought too- keep having to pop down to Jaycar for one of these or one of them etc. Finished my new improved version of Elfords over boost cutout Also I tested the pressure switch's- they both work fine and turn on at exact pressure they should - indicated pressure on the boost gauge that came in rx7. I want another boost gauge though- one that reads up to 10 or 15 psi. The old gauge is in kg/cm2 which just seems silly. 5psi equals .35 or something dumb.
  15. Got my widened steels dropped off today. Shane a fellow HB nutter in Chch dropped them off on his way through from Vivaspeeds. Cheers Geoff. Quite happy- got them sandblasted and it was the best money spent. I could never have got them this clean and rust free. I have to tidy up some bits on them then paint time! Photos soon.
  16. Looking good!!!! Those altezza springs quite hard? Also...nice Rimu tree in background of carpark shots.
  17. Are they tiny little disc made just for minis or off something else?
  18. If your set on using nyloc nuts as most seem to have what i do is tighten up the ball joint tight as witha normal nut and flat washer. Once its tight I then remove normal nut and refit nyloc. If you cant even get ball joint to stop spinning while you tighten nut then if you can geta bottle jack up in there and really push ball joint in place tight then tighten/remove nut. Heres a mates HB viva with GT Rostyles and chrome rings- looks sweet...
  19. I'm waiting for these to arrive from wellington.... I'm looking forwards to them as my standard victor rims are only 4 or 4.5" wide and the 185 tyres fitted bulge out a bit on each side. The new wheels are 6" which will hopefully mean flat side walls. I too am not a fan of really stretched tyres on old Brits- just not quite right. I want the period look. If I was you I'd wait till tyres are worn down too then maybe get them done.
  20. I started on all the wiring today. I have some great ideas about keeping it safe if the boost gets too high. I want to keep it all as neat as possible and easy to work on. Today was 29 degrees and such lovely sunshine to drink coffee and play with wires in. I had a little helper but he soon grew tired of the haynes manual wiring diagram and gave up... Fortunately Vivas are about as simple as it gets for wiring. I have stripped the loom right back and started again. I want to have a big fat supply to the coils- the standard mazda supply wire is bigger than the Vivas main loom feed!!! So I shall employ a relay activated by the ignition which will then feed the coils straight off the battery lead- I want big fat juicy sparks!
  21. I added a breather to the fuel tank so its not just sucking air through the cap! Brand new Carter fuel pump arrived today- waiting on a regulator to arrive. Hopefully will get through a load of the wiring tomorrow. I so want to start this engine up!!!
  22. Yeah- looks like it would work - but once ya add the sensor and the display its almost the same price as the innovate one.
