Not always, we used ppg quick dry acrillic on my old boss's Val,
and iv got ppg spraying enamel for my esky(but will probly end up using house of colour or spies heckler)

I know you said you checked the oil, but its not TO full is it?
Sweet yeah then if you have a look youl see what the switch, should have 1 wire/termanal on it. Mount your lights, run the + wire, then hook the earth lead from your lights up to the termanal.
Lets you run a heaver gauge wire from the battery to get more power at the bulb. You use/can use the factory light wiring to switch the relay when you flick the lights on.
Are you meaning the mk2 struts won't fit in your mk1? if so just put the mk1 tops on them! And i would recomend staying away from those cheap weld on coll over kits! A mate of mine's got them in his mk1 and has had no nd of trouble, ie striped threads on the seats, crap springs etc etc.
