  1. Hi all, quick qusetion regarding putting a 5spd sierra gearbox into a mk4 coathanger, i heard that a sierra drivshaft will bolt in without needing to be shortened. is this true? (standard diff) as far as im aware the standard cortina d/shaft needs to be shortened slightly, would think the sierra one would too? any advice appreciated cheers
  2. Cheers guys Yep looks to be just a slightly off reading from the dial which is no big deal, the guage dosnt go any higher than just above half after long periods of idling or driving and is running well at the temp so all is good
  3. Hi all. what is the normal operating temperature on a 2.0 cortina? the reason i ask is i have just replaced my thermostat/coolant and radiator cap and the temperature now sits at a bit over half at full heat. Is this normal?(would sit on a bit over quarter temp before i changed the thermostat etc) any advice appreciated cheers
  4. I notice there are 4 or 5 notches on the crank pulley when cranked to TDC does it matter exactly which mark it is lined up on?
  5. The car is a MK 5 with a 2L, have just fixed up the head as it had a burnt valve, now im at the stage of putting it back on the car. Have lined up the timing mark for the cam, is there a timing mark for the crank pulley? or is brining number 1 cylinder to TDC the way to do it? any advice appreciated. Cheers.
  6. Cheers guys, im going to do the belt, just wasnt sure why the haynes manual recomend leaving it until a complete overhaul? seems stupid as the belt may well stretch and or break although the manual states otherwise.
  7. Hi, Im doing a bit of head work on a mk 5 2L corty, is it worthwhile cahanging the cambelt? I have a haynes manual for the car which says the belts are strong and dont tend to strech considerably and that only if the motor is getting a complete overhaul (which it isnt) it dosnt need to be changed, is this true? The belt appears to be in ok condition although it has a very small minor amount of fraying along one edge over about 100mm aprox.
  8. Cheers for the replies, brought a set of four splined tools from auto one today, they cost $20.
  9. Im in the process of replacing a burnt valve in a Mark 5 Cortina 2L, and have found that to remove the head studs a special splined tool is needed. I have been into a ford dealership who have one but wont lend it and dont sell them anymore. What other options do i have? are there any other 'special' tools i havnt noticed that will be needed to replace the valve? Cheers.
