  1. hey boes.. my mitsubishi is being a typical mitsubishi with problems cropping up haha. today while coming back from Waihi I noticed a knocking noise coming from the front passenger side suspension when I went over bumps or whenever I turned right. I jacked the car up with and with the wheel still on grabbing top and bottom of tyre I was able to rock it a few mm whilst making the noise. I took the grease cap off the top of the strut and I couldn't see the top nut move at all while rocking it back and forth, but looking under the car you could see the top of the strut moving. I took the top nut and washer out and all the ball bearings are still there and in place so I'm not sure what to think? I've only just recently replaced front shocks, springs etc and the tophats looked to be in good order when the struts were apart. Can anyone throw some light on this situation? Cheers
  2. Nice Lancer, bit off topic but in one of those photos there's a green Civic with rice tail lights - that used to be my flatmates one haha. She swapped it for a rough GTX sedan which then got stolen.
  3. Might be keen sunday afternoon haha, work sat and goin to a 21st sat nite.
  4. I think that's shocking how some cambelts only have a 20,000kms/12 month warranty. Cambelts are meant to last 100,000kms usually, and even so alot of them are over-engineered to reduce costly failures such as you have endured.
  5. Cross fingers it only slipped a couple teeth and there's no damage to the valves. PS: My over the internet diagnosis is awesome
  6. So the steering is all back together and had a wheel alignment done. Man what an improvement! It handles so much better and it steers far more acurately! It feels like a totally different car.
  7. Sigma most likely, as the Galant VX-S sale didn't go through. Also the VX-S is a 2L DOHC.
  8. The result of this weekend's work: I'm happy with the height for now, but the rear has to come down sometime soon though. It's heaps stiffer in the front, which is exactly what I wanted. Can't wait til tomorrow to drive it and see how it feels.
  9. Yeah 4G62 is SOHC 1800, found in Cordias, some Sigmas, Chariots etc. 4G37 is also SOHC 1800 but they look the same as the 4G32 just like how a 4G62 looks like a 4G63.
  10. I was going to take pics of the bare strut while it was all apart but I completely forgot. They are welded to the strut.
  11. haha yeah I painted the old galant's calipers with them in place, had newspaper and cardboard everywhere but managed to get overspray on the discs. At about that time I gave up hence why I only pained one side Pete
  12. Fully. Was going to do the rears but couldn't be fucked pulling them off especially with the hassle of the brake pads falling out and putting them back in etc. Will do it another day.
  13. Yuh, even more so than my old GLX which has a 4G37.
  14. Here's some pics from progress over the weekend: Front suspension all apart: New sway bar bushes: Shocks, old vs. new: Rotors freshly machined: Strut back together with kings and refitted + calipers painted for bling : Big ups to Tank and Mark for their help. Tomorrow I have to sort out the tie rods, pitman arm and idler arm. It seems I will be running out of time and money to do the turbo + intercooler, but hopefully I will get the exhaust modified and fitted before trackday.
  15. Actually the Galant did come with a 4G32 in the GL model. You can tell a 4G32/37 from a 4G62/63 SOHC from looking at the exhaust manifold spacing. If the exhaust ports are equal spacing apart it's a 4G32/37, if they are bunched in groups of two it's a 4G62/63 SOHC.
  16. Does anyone happen to have a ball joint splitter? Preferably with forks about 20mm apart. My splitter has taken all the joints off but one, which the forks wont get around. Gah! Pics up of my progress soon
  17. I don't think it will be a Solex, most likely an Aisan downdraft carb.
  18. Yeah mine's an actual nut sorta thing, not as deep as a normal nut but a nut all the same. Took it to tank's and it seemed to come off easy enough in the vice. Mint.

    Rev Oil at Repco

Could be worse.. could be working at SuperCheap! *raises hand for that* But meh I get paid more than most you Repco guys anyway
  20. Haha gutted, and there were people saying on the Oz Starion forums "yeah moooite it will just undo easy maaaaate".
  21. That's pretty stink they wont go thru with the deal. I was watching that auction and it's not your fault they put it in the wrong category where no one would view it. Give them mega bad feedback I reckon - or even offer them $100, it sounds like they just want it gone and there's no way they would get anymore than $100 for it from a wrecker or anywhere else anyway.
  22. Pull off cover to check anyway. It may not be the cambelt and could be something else entirely. Check if all the marks line up when no 1 piston is at TDC. Check that it's getting spark, and check if it's getting fuel in there. If it's all timed up properly, getting spark at the correct time and fuel being injected at the right time surely it should fire.
  23. Cambelt could have slipped a few teeth - also the cambelt could be half shredded and part of the cambelt is hitting the cover. Pull of cam cover and check. Is it north-south or east-west setup? DOHC 10 valve.. haha sounds funky.
  24. That sounds like an idea. Might try that tomorrow morning before finding a vice or something
  25. So does anyone have a vice in their garage?
