  1. Hmm, could probably space the carb up abit (use the plastic spacer things that go between the carb and manifold on the Cortinas) Not sure how many youd need, or how many youd be able to use without it affecting the carb tho...
  2. Which is actually not true anyway, there are different ratios and they're mostly under 4:1 ( I thinkonly the wagon is 4.1 )..

Yea bro you've got the idea.. the bottom outlet on the choke goes to the other outlet on the manifold tho (the one that comes from the block)
  4. Haha yep that would have been me, not so sacked anymore though, had to raise it for the cert But yea I live just down the road from there... How come you went to tauranga to get your cert?
  5. Oh, didnt you have to move the mounts back or anything? what about the gearlever hole?
  6. Oh true? nah theyre not that big actually aye, theyre stainless steel about 3mm thick and about 150mm x 50mm (under the carpet). The cert guy didnt really say much about it just said everything looked real tidy, and yea.. How big did he say yours had to be? did he lift the carpet to check them out and everything?
  7. Yea, auto box should have the same switch.. the Sierra ones have the two prongs sticking out, and Escort ones just have the little clip kinda thing.. But yea as Methodz said, some places will probably just say that if the're there then they have to work. Even if theyre not required by law. Btw, whereabouts in Orewa are you? I might have seen your Escort round...
  8. Theres been a few topics started on this before, should have searched.. anyway... Yep the auto shaft fits, (also speaking from experience) but that was on a sedan, not sure about a panelvan.. -Gearbox will fit in the original transmission tunnel after abit of hammer use, oh and you'll need to cut the original mounts out becuase the box wont fit past them... -mounts need to be relocated about 3 inches further back, so you'll need to modify to suit (I just used the wider Sierra x-member and bolted it through the floor with some plates to strengthen it up, passed cert no probs) - move gearstick hole back - use Seirra clutch/flywheel assembly. Not sure weather the flywheel is a straight bolt up fit or not, checked on my old x-flow and it was, but yea other people have had probs.. -Escort speedo cable will reach (just) -Use the escort reverse light switch (straight swap) -For the starter motor you can either use a 4 spd mk4/5 Cortina one or the Sierra one.
  9. You'll need the esky reverse light switch bro, its a straight swap with the Sierra one.. Ive just finished my conversion too, got the cert last week and went for a wof at vtnz. I dont have reverse lights hooked up yet either, they're not actually required by law so he cant fail it if they dont work.
  10. Probably no need to say this lol, but yea 1-2-4-3 for the x-flow. The Pintos are 1-3-4-2..

Im assuming a mk2 Cortina should be pretty much the same.. looking from the front of the carb you should have a hose from the outlet pointing backwards on the choke unit going to the bottom connection on the heater, then the outlet pointing fowards on the choke goes to the connection on the intake manifold. Pretty simple, youll need a good length of heater hose to do it (a metre will do) just cut it to fit..

Yea look in the haynes manual under the cooling system section.. has a diagram of whole thing, like where the water flows etc. When I put the 2.0 in the esky it had a 32/36 with an auto choke (orginally manual choke on the 1.3) Il have a look at how I set it up, hold on...
  13. Bolts straight up to the esky mounts aye.. its a good idea to use the Cortina ones though, as they handle the weight quite abit better..
  14. Hmm yea apparently the clearance is meant to be set slightly looser if you have a lumpy cam? I just set mine at .008" inlet and .010" exhaust, seems to be fine. The cam is an FR21.. any idea on what the clearances should be for that RT? The .008" and .010" are cold settings arent they.. hot settings would be slightly tighter?

    White smoke =?

Yea man, once its been compressed, ie. tightened down, it cant be re-used..even if it looks alright. You'll need a new one they're only like 40 bucks. Or you could by low's whole engine for 50 I guess? haha...

    White smoke =?

Sounds like the head gasket.. it'll definitely be stuffed now after being removed and refitted again, as the gasket compresses when its bolted down so that it can seal properly. (they can only be used once, even if they look perfectly fine)
  17. Yea im keen to go along to it this season and maybe take the esky down the strip But need cert etc first, so not this friday... Is it weekly or what?
  18. Yea thats one tidy escort! mm, maybe loose the black strip on the bumper as atro said.. doesnt look bad, but a nice chrome bumper would look abit more sexy I think
  19. Pretty sure both clutches are the same.. APART from the release bearing. The cortina one is slightly thinner than the seirra one, which means that the clutch wont engage fully So yea dont make the same mistake I did haha, make sure you use a sierra release bearing.

    No Fire

Yea the points have to be gapped properly or it will either not start, or run like shit.. also make sure you've put the leads back in the right order, its easy to mix them up and that would prevent it from starting too...

    pinto sump

Will bolt straight up to the xflow mounts.. but yea, the round pinto mounts are more ideal, theyre meant to be stronger I think. Yea the sump needs to be cut and welded. Its not a straight bolt up job aye.. theres a little bit of modding that needs to be done...
  22. Bend an old valve and slot it through a gearbox bolt hole, with the head of the valve slotted in between the ring gear teeth. As said before, hitting the spanner with a hammer should give enough shock to crack the bolt.. or else a rattle gun will work real well if you can get hold of one...
  23. retep 130 wrote I got mine done there a few months ago (reset 2").. cost me $120 and I still have the receipt lol... Maybe their prices have changed now or something...
