  1. Also can i put a motorbike seat with handlebars in my toyota camry and get it certified. If so what sort of seat belt do i need or can i get it certed without a seat belt ? Does the seat need a back on it like a normal car seat bcause i just want a motorbike seat. Or will i need to get my camry certed as a motor cycle but the its got 4 wheels, can a motorcycle with 4 wheels be classed as a motorbike ?
  2. When performing a body swap on a vehicle with a full chassis that has the vin and chassis numbers on the chassis. Does the vehicle remain being regisered as what the chassis states ? For example. I drop a C10 chev body on a hilux chassis will it say registered as a hilux ?
  3. A few other things to consider. Hoist breaks and car crashes to the ground landing on someone. Whos responsible. Hoist breaks and car stuck on hoist. Customer gets shitty cause he needs his car. Someone's welding and shop catches fire. Customer pays for 1 days hoist hire and one of the tools you supply breaks causing the whole job to come to a halt, vehicle stuck on hoist with its wheels missing etc and another customer has taken a day of work the following day as he has booked the hoist aswell. Im sure there are ways around this but things like building insurance, public liability insurance, damage and loss of tools etc are things to consider. Im not trying to sound negative. just throwing ideas at ya.
  4. Hi Clint Im thinking of building an exact replica of the flintstones car. My understanding i can do this using the factory wooden chassis if built as a replica scratch built. My question is can i get solid concrete wheels certified ? If so who do you suggest i can see to get them made. Also if i import a Chev truck with no paper work to comply it. Can i change 60% of the chassis to register it as a scratch built ?
  5. Wonder if there will be as many jobs in the repair certification industry if we follow the ozzys where cars get written off if they need structural repairs. The icar welding certification is of my interests.
  6. T5's are pretty tough boxes dude. I doubt very much a V6 bombadore engine with 11lbs of boost would put out much more than 260hp. Id imagine your wheels will spin before anything breaks unless what was said above and your box has been thrashed to death or done very high ks.
  7. I can just imagine having chain picked out of your face in hospital after being in an accident. Ive seen what wheels such as momo and wildcat do after a persons face get smashed into them.
  8. You can remove the rear section of the MX5 box and bolt on a rear from a rotary/626 box. Bolts straight on however you have to change a few other bits a bobs. easy to do. I did this when I fitted a mx5 engine and box to a rwd 323
  9. Ive only got 5 inches and that's fully stretched. The missus seems to be happy with it.
  10. When performing an engine transplant using a different engine and auto box (retaining the factory loom and ecu for that engine and trans) that utilises an electronic speedo drive/sensor and the vehicle its being transplanted into has a cable speedo how do i connect the cable speedo ? If i remove the electronic sensor and fit a cable drive will the auto trans still change gears. The 2 engine transmissions in question are Toyota 1UZ & Auto VR/VS holden V8 & Auto Its been at least 5 years since ive done a 1uz swap with and auto trans. The first car i just fitted a gps speedo The second car was a supra that had an electronic speedo anyway. I have seen pic on the interweb of T drive units that fit between the speed sensor and box to allow a cable to be used. But is this necessary on a 1UZ or Holden V8 ? Has anyone had any first hand experience with this ? I guess i really want to know is will everything still work as it should with the electronic speedo drive removed.. Thanks
  11. Was almost serious. But I have a customer who has asked me if they can change all the nuts and bolts on there project with aftermarket ones (Bunnings styles or similar). They also want to remove all the spring washers and replace with nylocks. VTNZ has told them the bolts need certing. Could this be true ?
  12. I was thinking about replacing all the nuts bolts in my car with brand new ones painted matt pink. Also I want to remove any spring washers and replace them with nylock nuts. Do I need a cert ? Serious question by the way.
  13. Maybe even go a little narrower. You can always buy spacers to space the rims out, but spacers to space them in are very rare now days.
  14. Give karlos at steel surgeon a call. Last diff I had shortened up was when I had a commodore head fitted to an escudo housing. He cut and welded the axels. Cost $450 all up. Worked a treat. Did lots of burnouts with that diff. Infact every time I took off I did a skid in it. I only lived 5ks from work and I would use 3 sets of tires each day just getting to and from work. That's how strong the diff was. Pretty strong eh.
  15. Its sunny now. Im stoked as i can finally dry my washing.
  16. Teach me how to be a certifier. Then you can be less busy. Tis a good idea.
  17. Hey Clint. 18 yeas ago Mark came over to my place and started the cert on my RX5. I paid him $550 and still have the receipt. When i get it finished in 2030 will i have to pay any extra money ? Also second question. When did the rule come out regarding welding of front suspension components having to be tig welded ? Ie wishbones etc. Cheers

Hey Antz. Dont forget to post up some pictures of your car in the projects threads.
  19. Have read what you said but sounds to me clutch is not fully disengaging. Possibly not bleed properly ? Or faulty / leaking clutch slave or master cyl
  20. Only thing new is it has 2 flat tyres
  21. Does the crack testing thing cover custom made rear suspension arms ? Like if you change your leefs to a 4 link ?
  22. Cletus thank you for all your input in this thread. Such a massive help for everyone.
  23. If i import a fresh import with no paperwork and cut out the chassis numbers and plate them them in can i get it vinned? Or what if i replace the whole firewall to give it the smooth look (still no chassis numbers) can i get it vinned? Or what if i find a roof from a wreckers, some doors boot and bonnet at pick a part, some rear quarters from zebra a floor and nose cut from another wrecker and make my own firewall with no vin numbers, get the rest of the parts new from a car dealership can i get it vinned ? Even if i buy all the parts new from a dealership can i get it vinned ? Now back to my first question, what if i import an import with no papers, replace the whole firewall and say i built the whole car from new and used parts. Who would know ? I hope you like my story
  24. Reminds me of my commodore. The vin tag under the screen didnt match the rego plate. After removing the windscreen i see that someone had cut a slot in the foam that goes between the body and the screen and slipped another ID tag in there. Lucky for me the old original id tag was still underneath. Fitted a new screen and i was away. Truth is i had no idea the tag had been changed. You wouldn't even know. Something to be wearing about when buying commodores. Edit; i should mention my car was a stolen recovered vehicle from Turners auctions sold to me with a clear title.
