I spose I should commit at this point lol. I'll be there at 12(ish) Do younwant me to bring my bbq incase? I'm taking the ute anyway with jacks, axle stands(1 set) drive on ramps, a few sets of spanners, socket sets and if I can lift it, my toolbox with various swap meet quality hand tools. Tbh, i reckon we'll smash it out. It doesn't need much. But would be nice to re pack bearings, check brakes, And get the engine running nice on some fresh fuel for a wof.

Around midday start at a guess, without speaking for him. I will ask and confirm. Great idea on the tools. I'll have a think about what jobs can actually happen and the tools needed etc and make a list.
-
Just my hand tools at the moment, I'll probably put the toolbox in the ute, it's basic cheap brand stuff but it's got me this far. A few sets of spanners and sockets. I don't have a battery impact etc. I have a couple of jacks, axle stands, ramps. I'm tempted to pack the welder incase there's any rust under the screen but not sure how ambitious that would be. Still I have a mig and plenty of scrap sheet steel if needed. Hopefully not though. Davey said he'll sort the beers and sausages too.

Absolutely. Also It might be one of your old BBQs in the back of my ute on the day ,so there's that to consider. Cheers for the replies and interest so far btw.

I have been talking with @daveyc123 about getting his viva finished and Wof'd after seeing his posts in the help/depression thread. I'm heading over on sun 4th of Feb with another member (i dont want to tag him incase his commitments change and he feels obligated) but thought I'd put it out there incase anyone fancies a bbq/working bee afternoon. I'm very happy to supply some saussys and warm beers for the cause and load my ute up with as many tools/jacks/sharns as I can gather. I've been and seen the car and it needs a few things like window seals, weatherstripping, electronic ignition fitting, electric fans, a carb tune up etc and probably the brakes and wheel bearings given a check up as the car hasn't seen the rd in a few years. I'm very happy to do this on my own as i said I'd help out but thought I'd put it out there incase anyone feels the same. He lives burwood/Shirley. (I have already cleared this with him)

That's the smartest comment I'll make this month. Glad it's sorted though -

Don't (Eddie) Kidd yourself -
What do you need doing? I know some stuff about some stuff that might include escort stuff.

I'm keen

It was stuck on the dowels. Honestly I've never experienced anything similar to that. I was hammering on an old bread knife to get the box out far enough to get the cold chisel in and then a prybar. Fought me the whole way off too. That was absolutely nuts Never again .
-
Starter is off, IL need to check again that bolt beside the driveshaft. that's actually a great pic, thanks.

No sandwich plate on this box that I can see
-
I've googled up this image which is from a rav4. I don't recall seeing or undoing these three nuts, I'll have another look tomorrow. Doing this on axlestands on my driveway after work has me regretting life at the mo hah.
-
Not really, it seems like there's a bolt I'm missing tbh. I got a prybar in it but snaps back shut instantly. It hasn't seperatd at all. I must have missed something
-
That's a great idea tbh. I've already unbolted the slave so didn't really think about that I'll give it a go cheers

The replacement is push clutch, so hoping it's the right one.

Evening Tech spammers. Got a shit of a prick of an arse of a gearbox I can't separate from a motor. Any ideas? It's a 1az avensis with manual gearbox with slipping clutch. Got everything apart I can see apart, 3 mounts off, crossmember is dangling but the gearbox is still stuck to the engine as if I hadn't touched it. Jacked up and down loads, had prybar on it, it'll seperate a mm or two but snap back into pos like it's bolted. Am I being a dumbarse? First toyota fwd box I've done.

Cheers. That's plenty to be learning with. Thanks

can anyone nudge me toward a gas bottle decision? i'm lost. i've got a cigweld 185 that i've ran a handfull of welds out on some flux core wire. but i need to get a gas bottle and a reel of .6 . i've welded heavy stuff at work, 3phase brute of a machine welding 3mm up to 12mm plate and brackets etc, but am needing to learn how to weld car panel steel at home argoshield or co2? size of bottle? buy or rent? where from? i'm in chch if that makes a difference. thanks. joe.

Cool. Id need to get my shit together then.
-
Expressing interest. When would you be thinking of doing this? i would love to run the cortina and see if it makes 100bhp
-
Try Overland express.

Cheers for that info. Ill read through the link after work. I'm going to ring a certifier in chch soon(ish) and have a chat with him see what he says. I'm not going to go crazy or reinvent the wheel, it should hopefully be a pretty standard low volume. Wheels, suspension, seats, bigger capacity of the same same block. The brake lines have been modified and will need to be remade anyway. The turret style booster Is gone and he ran twin remote boosters from an MGB/jag for some reason. Unless it's a stupid price I will probably get a company to remake them. I've made a few flares and wof standard brake pipes but it's impossible to get it looking neat
