  1. Haha loving these stories about ADO16s. Seven cars to make the advert?! Pretty sure they say in it "See, no damage!" As the car whimpers off
  2. Haha that's a pretty sweet story! Yup passed the test no worries. Good to know about the sump plug, will remember that! So far the flexi-joint has been good, it leaks a bit when the engine is moving on acceleration while its cold but once it warms up and the pipe expands (?) a bit it's fine. Agree with you about the ride height! I've taken it on a few beach trips and paddock bashes, the only time I've gotten stuck was in the sand when it was lower down.
  3. Bit behind on updates, oops. The gearbox is all fixed now thanks to these: IMG_20140927_195432 by GuyWithAviators, on Flickr First test drive was to the McLeans Island swapmeet IMG_6829-Edit-35 by GuyWithAviators, on Flickr Went really good. Next thing that went wrong was the exhaust came off after the headers IMG_0366 by GuyWithAviators, on Flickr Drove it around like that for a bit until I had the time to take it get fixed Had a flexi joint put in yesterday 2014-11-11 11.06.10 by GuyWithAviators, on Flickr And took it for my full license test today, the instructor loved it. That's it for now, just continuing to get it ready for the long trip to Auckland in January next year Austin 1300 2 by GuyWithAviators, on Flickr And a nice picture to go with it all
  4. I used to always have my birthdays at the groynes. Be even better with old cars and men with beards
  5. I used to go to school with him. Looks like this now: Bikes by GuyWithAviators, on Flickr It's interesting..
  6. I don't know much about the hubs etc but do you have a workshop manual? I'm happy to scan the relevant section in my Haynes book in you want
  7. Cool wee meet, thanks for organising Karl. Awesome weather which is weird for a swap meet haha. Scored a few bargains and pined over some cars. Heading back tomorrow to grab a few more things - if they're there. Here's some photos. More here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/45457939@N08/sets/72157648225088208/ How is that so slammed?
  8. Anyone going to this? I'll be going sometime in the morning after voting stuff is done.
  9. When I eventually run out of spare engine parts I might look into an engine swap. It's been done many times. R100 had one on here at while back. Would certainly give other cars a fright at the lights! The engine itself is fine now and my old gearbox was smooth so should be A++ after combining these two! Need to get it running good by the end of the year when I take it to Auckland.. Edit: you can even buy a bolt in subframe replacement for one to stick a vtec in it: http://www.superfastminis.com/MTB-AA.htm
  10. Haha yeah! I think I have it sorted, water was coming in around the heater pipe and small rust hole near the top of the bulkhead. The quarter light windows leak but only when it's being washed, not in rain.
  11. Decided that while it's off the road during the gearbox rebuild I'd make the inside a nicer place to be. When I first got the car I attempted to dye the original gross faded carpets blue again with some dye that you mix up in a salt water solution. Worse idea ever! It worked okay for a while then the carpet just fell apart even more and I noticed that the salt in it had made everything on the floor rust. This is the bottom of my amplifier 2014-09-13 20.52.09 by GuyWithAviators, on Flickr And the seat mounts. Cleaned and painted all these up including the bottom of the seats and the seatbelt components. 2014-09-13 18.14.19 by GuyWithAviators, on Flickr Because the carpet fell apart it meant that my feet were just on the metal floor which I did paint right at the start but it came off and combined with the water from the leaky door seals it started to rust the floor pan again. So I stripped that back and painted it again with several layers of decent paint this time. I bought a bunch of carpet from Bunnings ($25 per m of 2m wide) 2014-09-14 17.37.22 by GuyWithAviators, on Flickr (Can just see the corner of the OG carpet there) Found all the sound deadening and then cut the carpet up to fit nicely! Was a bit difficult sorting the corners out but it looks really good for about $60 of materials compared to $280 for some precut stuff for this car. 2014-09-14 16.33.43 by GuyWithAviators, on Flickr The finished result: IMG_2575 by GuyWithAviators, on Flickr IMG_2577 by GuyWithAviators, on Flickr Let me know what you think!
  12. I got mine from Australia but I wish I knew about that crowed Corbie just posted, they're about $20 cheaper than what I bought. Will definitely be going there next time.
  13. Would have loved to attend but was too busy fixing the reliable british car. Was there much in the swapmeet part? Last year I scored a sweet auto repair manual and a motorbike toolkit for $1.50
  14. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/35013-guywithaviators-1974-austin-1300/page-3#entry1383521 Here we go..
  15. Took the engine out and split the casings to see what had happened. Familiar sight... The spider gear pin in the diff had moved sideways because a retaining pin was missing and caught on something and snapped it in half, then the piece that broke off was flying around in there looking for a way to get out. Surprised I didn't hear it. Cracked the diff casing and the edge of the gearbox casing. Fell apart in my hand when I touched it. The engine itself looks alright though, don't think any of the metal filings went further than the gearbox case. Was hoping it would be a straight forward swap of my other gearbox but the gears inside don't look the best to will use the good parts from both to make a decent gearbox. But before all this happened the car has been running great and being used for daily duties. Talk about it
  16. All out now and split the casings. It was the spider gear pin that had snapped in half and started floating around in there. Will post pictures later
  17. Swapping over my spare diff and g/box today! Bit annoyed that I lost 5L of near new oil
  18. Haha, seems like everyone has experiences with these when they're young
  19. Those wires are incredible. Nice photos too!
