  1. https://m.finda.co.nz/business/listing/4nb48p/wellington-vehicle-compliance-ltd/ pretty sure it's these guys. A dude in a van with belt up on the side turns up at work.
  2. Belt up guy came in today and did a lap belt for $100 fitted, so I guess a 3 point might be a bit more.
  3. I think repco still sell them at a crazy price. Try Belt Up. He is the mobile belt repair man. Pretty sure he will sell static belts.
  4. Without vacuum on the pcv valve the crankcase could be pressurising.
  5. So pcv valve is removed. Does the engine vent to a catch can? Is it full of oil now?
  6. When Coasting down a hill (engine braking) the throttle is closed, so there is a high vacuum. If your valve stem seals are shot oil gets sucked past them, then when you open the throttle it burns that oil. Sounds like oil and unburnt fuel collected in the exhaust and then ignited, blowing up your muffler. Would also be worth checking the PCV valve. With engine running pull it out of the rocker cover, it should be sucking. Put your thumb over the end and you should hear it click closed. Supercustom heads arnt too bad to fit but may be a challenge for an amateur. You will need a engine shop to swap over the valves and set the clearances. Supercustoms have two radiator. Except the early models had one. You would want to pull them out and get them cleaned out. This can be a pain in the butt job. While you are at it you would also want to replace water pump and thermostat for good measure. So yeah, the head is only half the cost.
  7. Or you could remove the bottom hose so the gunk doesn't go in the rad while flushing the block.
  8. If no vac leaks are found, pull top off carb and blow out all the ports with compressed air.
  9. @Steelies How did you check for blockages in the carb? Sounds to me like a carb issue/ blocked idle circuit. Did you put any Mobil or gull petrol in during your trip that has ethanol in it? As said above, intake leak could also be a culprit.
  10. The WOF computer at normal workshops doesn't say if a car is certed or not.
  11. Note 6 refers to external wastegates only
  12. You know I do WOFs, right? http://vehicleinspection.nzta.govt.nz/virms/in-service-wof-and-cof/general/exhaust/exhaust-system See part 5.
  13. Yes. As long as the tip is outside the passenger compartment (sticks out and doesn't end under the car)
  14. New Toyotas have similar Doo dads near the wing mirrors and tail lights.
  15. Or put the crank pully at TDC and see what lines up at the cams.
  16. BJ5 as in familia? Is it a BP engine? I think those I and E marks line up with the diagonal lines on the backing plate, such as...
  17. Great to see this out of the shed after all the hours you have put into it. Best wishes for WOF success.
  18. We have a drive on brake tester (safety stop) at work. if you want to try it out I'll be there Saturday morning.
  19. Is each side getting the same fluid pressure at the same time. You can get pressure gauges that screw into the bleeders, but are probably a bit tricky to find. Is there one line from the master cylinder that tees off to the two front sides?
