Popular Post cletus
Last update for 2019 I got annoyed at my brain going around in circles about intercooling, between water to air, air to air, or doing water meth injection. Spent waaay too much time reading stuff on the internet I'd actually bought most of the stuff to do W2A but it adds a lot of weight and more stuff to do A2A means I lose the bonnet catch so I'll have to put up with 1x dick punch from @RUNAMUCK due to bonnet pins Water/meth is the easiest route but so much conflicting information on whether it works well or not plus the unit I was looking at was $800 So to stop going around in circles any more I stopped thinking about it and attacked the front with a cut off wheel and a hole saw Got some piping mocked up and the warm side, which was the side that looked like it was going to be difficult, is pretty easy using piping I cut up that was on the vg 35
Popular Post cletus
Intercooler pipes mostly done. Need to sort a bov and tidy/paint them Also sorted a water pump pulley and crank pulley combo- these I had bought ages ago as a box of parts off a marine engine which never fitted anything so had to modify a few things, now I can mount the alternator on the front of the lh head which is opposite to how they usually are
Popular Post cletus
@RXFORD /Matt at tin tricks helped me out again making this fancy bracket which gets rid of the bonnet catch stuff and mounts the top of the intercooler, grilles etc and I made some brackets for the bottom of the i/c Also spent a while making the engine fit under the bonnet, cut a bit out of the mounts and spacers under the front subframe, now it has 1x bees dick of clearance 35
cletus
Blow off valve Having steel i/c pipes makes selection a little bit tricky as not many come with a steel weld on fitting and I wanted a decent size one. The only ones I found were quite expensive, like $500 or more so I took a punt on a copy aliexpress tial one. It seems ok apart from it doesnt seal. I sent aliexpress man a message 3 2
Popular Post cletus
Anyhoo I'd already pulled it apart and ol xin p. ling at the blow off valve factory has been putting the wrong size o rings in, got a couple of new ones and tried it, now it seals pretty well 21
Popular Post cletus
Thanks to @Raizer 's tip on sandblaster cabinets being cheap at the moment I went and got one today. Makes cleaning up crappy old parts easy I had to get a bigger compressor as well, supercheap has a special going on those at the moment too, $550 including an air hose
Popular Post cletus
First part of the exhaust done. Now have to figure out what to do with the wastegate pipe Easiest would be plumb it straight into the pipe behind the turbo. When I did the last one I made a mistake blending it into the pipe at too shallow of an angle and it was very difficult to weld. It never cracked and it never had a flex joint between the gate and pipe...but it had a heap of weld in it Input on whether a flex joint is required would be appreciated if you have done it before Other option is run a separate pipe to down by the trans then into the main pipe but I'm a bit short of room
Popular Post cletus
Did it this way with a neat looking flexi joint i got from Sinco It's a tight fit down there, have to jack one side of the motor up, unbolt and half remove the down pipe, take the manifold off then it comes out... 35
Popular Post cletus
Hj60 landcruiser radiator was the biggest size I could find to fit in the gap available, fits not bad just need to move or put an angled lower outlet on the bottom tank so it clears the exhaust 27
Popular Post cletus
3.5 inch all the way to the back, used a big adrenalin r muffler at the back and made it with 3x flanged sections so I can have different options on how it exits. Will get some more flanges and make another tail pipe with no muffler if I feel like annoying the neighbors
Popular Post cletus
Some handy hints from doing exhaust pipes 1. I always use cotton reel style mounts, and I mount them the wrong way so they are in tension. I've done a few this way and never had one fail, the ones in the VG have been there for 9 years now. I use 50mm diameter mounts with a 10mm thread. This makes it easy to remove the exhaust, and gives you some adjustability via packers if you need to 2. Cutting u bends can be a bit of a prick, my cut off saw cant do a nice cut on this size pipe, I use a big hose clamp around the pipe to mark a cut line 3. I use pot belly paint from bunnings to paint exhausts and it lasts better than hi temp stuff from a can 28
Popular Post cletus
Test fit of coil overs, all clears everything. Next job will be make some top mounts, and strengthen the shock mount Springs might be a bit soft but that's easy to sort out later if it's a problem, they are just some springs I had in stock off some coilovers 38
Popular Post cletus
Because I'm a wanker, i made some other exhaust options, a mufflerless tail pipe that bolts on in place of the muffler, and a turn down that can bolt on to the 3 flanged sections, so behind the diff, in front of it, or at the front pipe, so I can have varying levels of loud Exhaust is ready for paint now. I'll probably get the front pipes HPC coated again

Popular Post cletus
Dropped off all the piping at HPC, ordered some stiffer shorter springs for the front, booked in at autoblast to get the undersides blasted and painted , and booked in at gt refinishers for engine bay paint. I pulled the engine out again so when the car is gone I can get things done on the sump
