My name is Russell
Hello OS What could cause no spark on a single cylinder? (3) Dizzy cap points look in good condition. Spark plugs are new. Lead has been swapped around and consistently No 3 no spark. About to remove the head to do the valve stem seals and rings but want to fix this problem first. Have zero compression on cylinder 2. So removed lead and injector plug to get home, running on 3 cylinders which was when this problem occurred. Cheers Chris
thegreatestben
I had this problem on my silvertop. Everything looked ok. Then I put new cap and rotor in, all better.

thegreatestben
yeah not much else can be at fault if you got spark coming out coil going in the rotor/cap and only coming out three fourths of the out holes I chose to over look your reference to points
My name is Russell
Owe you a beer Ben! Had a second hand cap and rotor in stock that looked like it would work no better as the one in it looked new. but sure enough runs now on the corroded stuffed looking one. Now the fun begins, removing the head and pistons and stuff like that.

My name is Russell
Cause of 0 compression confirmed. ceramic that fell from spark plug has done the above damage. Is it likely to have done any serious damage under the valve or reckon i should be able to just replace it? will be doing stem seals at the same time. Seedy Al
damn son! you need a valve no wonder so smokey haha
Seedy Al
Oh right, yeah possibly Replacing a valve isn't as easy as you will have hoped. This will fuck up your tappet setting etc. I can vac test the rest of your head for you and actually check if its any good. you havnt mixed up the buckets on top of the valves have you?
My name is Russell
Yeah I don't think its something I want to try myself getting the lap correct seating etc. Is it likely to have damaged anything else reckon? hopefully it just went down the zorst. piston head has no marks on it at all Have a spare head to pinch one from but might be better to just go new? Be keen to pay a pro to sonic clean it and redo stem seals at the same time. Buckets still sitting in the same positions.
tortron
most of the time all the broken crap gets sucked out the exhaust. expecially if theres no marks on the poston you will be alright new valve is like $10 but considering you already have a spare head i would just take one of those and give it a quick lap in, take the shims out of the other engine and find one the right size
thegreatestben
Is that valve seat ok? that damage looks like the piece of what ever got stuck between the valve and valve seat when the valve was closing.
Seedy Al
Do the bores of the engine look ok? No scores or anything? We have a Mazda tribute where that someone dropped bits of spark plug down, then ran engine. Resulted in two fucked cylinder bores.
