EFI_LC
I am trying to do a simple job but have come pretty well stuck. BEAMS Altezza 4 cylinder manual with dual VVTI I can't find a manual to check how to remove them on the tezza motor I am stuck and can't see what is stopping it, the front cam mount/cover will not come off, I can move the cams and it will lift a few mm's but will not come up, I even removed the cam sensors with no luck. I can't see any bolts and it lifts clear of the raised guides on the side.
Yowzer
I think they have dowels that like to get a real good grip, especially if oil's gotten in there too they create a pretty solid vacuum when trying to pull them off.
Yowzer
They can also cement themselves to the oil seals pretty decently as well
Roman
You need to take the cam gears off. So you need a large hex head of the right size which undoes the front cap, and then there's another large hex under it which takes the gears off Then there are bolts for that front cover under there, then it all comes off. Before you do anything further, put those pulleys back together ASAP or they'll explode across the room and you'll never get them back together
Roman
Oh yeah just remembered. When you put it back on, there are some valley areas that need sealant, and some that if you fill them up your motor starves of oil haha. So take VERY CAREFUL note of which areas under the big cam cap have sealant on them.
EFI_LC
Before you do anything further, put those pulleys back together ASAP or they'll explode across the room and you'll never get them back together awesome info but too late, they are like a centrifugal springy double spline setup which once they come apart its friggin impossible to put back together, I might try my mate as they access to some trick gear..... fingers and toes crossed or its a new cam and if thats the case I wanna bigger one!!! I went out pulled bolts out tried the cam cover and pop it came off, go figure, best I can tell is maybe it was the oil seal?
Roman
It's possible to put them back together, its just 100000000000x easier to not have to hahaha. You'll need to make a jig that keeps everything aligned on those outer bolt holes while being able to push the spring back in.

EFI_LC
I was actually trying work out why I blew a head gasket, the head gasket had split with one of the 3 layers was almost completely peeled. I also had sludge in the water which i cleaned out once but still had a smaller quantity. I need it reliable and running cool so any advice or checks?
