86fiend
Having a problem with my t series trd 2way lsd in my toyota corolla ae70. Its whining on acceleration and knocking on deacceleration. Any ideas? May take it to a diff specialist in wellington. There are two companys too choose from so a little unsure which one too take it to. Wellington automotive gearbox specialists, or motortec transmissions I know its for gearboxes but they also do diffs. Any info will be helpful. kpr
sounds like a crownwheel & pinion issue. not the lsd itself. the backlash or pinion depth is set wrong. or the gears are just worn.
Truenotch
^^ Yip, what he said. The important part (LSD centre) should be fine.
ta63-1uzze
it wont be fine if you keep driving on it though , if you have excessive backlash or pinion bearing failure, which is what this could be , then the diff fluid will be full of metal, this will slowly fuck everything with a hardened surface. And wont be good for your clutch and frictions disks. best to pull it apart and check everything is ok and reassemble to factory specifications before and damage is done to the lsd centre. is it leaking fluid at the front pinion seal ? 86fiend
Man im abit pissed off cos I took it into a proper work shop to get the back lash dialed in proper. And have put red line oil in it.... and done sum little slides... only driven 14km on it tho. fingers crossed its sweet az. Wont be taking it back to the same place to get it fixed. Any of you guys used one of these gearbox/diff specialists shops in lower hutt before?
Truenotch
Man, that sucks... Did it sound OK when you first started driving it? I've only ever killed T series CWP's by not running enough oil at the race track, so it sounds like they could have messed it up. It's still worth taking it back to them to see what they'll do about it though.
kpr
definitely sounds like they have set it up wrong. old gears can be harder to setup / impossible if they have been running out of spec for ages. but a good shop should be able to tell by checking the contact patterns, if its going to be any good. also, if your running a rose jointed 4 link. you will get more noise transfer into the car. Chur Prob' backlash and needs the CW&P reset, hopefully can adjust out with the carrier bearing shims (assuming a T-series has them). I use Howat engineering in NaeNae for all my toyota G-series rebuilds.
Truenotch
^^ That's a good recommendation. I forget that Howat to diffs sometimes. Brian does a bloody good job.
mjrstar
You will get a small amount of clunking with a plate LSD when on / off load. It may pay to have someone else listen to it before you pull it to bits..
