felixx
Neighbours kid has just got a POS 300zx No reg/ wof spec Someones project that never really started or finished. Brakes need attention, thought I would start with a bleed as the brake fluid resiviour is empty. Any tips to bleeding the brakes on these? Anyone got a windscreen for one? Who would you recommend to build a new exhaust (it came with pipe and mufflers apparently) I was thinking of bleeding brakes so it will stop and taking it to WOF shop for him. he has $3k left to get it on the road (I think he will prob be better off selling it and taking any losses on the chin)
hmmmnz
i think, the best way of doing brakes, is the reverse method, wit a large syringe pump the fluid from the caliper up to the master, as the master res. fils, suck out the old crap, do it on each wheel in turn, no air bubbles , zang! as for doing the exhaust, as long as it as the headers, then any one can do it with minimal fuss i reckon the 300zx's are worth spending money on, they go pretty hard when running nicely, and are getting harder and harder to find, future classic i think

civic_zr
Pray the rear water hoses don't leak once it gets used again.
Valiant
Just bleed it like normal. Back flushing it just forces all the shit back up into the cylinder. Just don't pump the pedal very far down and you will be fine.
felixx
it has been sitting for 4 years.. I think I will encourage him to wof it as cheaply as possible and sell it AIWI.
felixx
hmmm got 3/4 wheels bled. The last one's bleed nipple was perfectly rounded off. Now the kid can 'safely' drive it to a VTNZ and get a failed WOF. On close inspection he needs to sell it. Random wires cut under bonnet No oil pressure (possibly dead guage due to above) Lots of bulbs missing No horn No headlights (but high beam OK) Cracked windscreen etc Carjam revealed a 40000km speedo windback too, the list goes on! ProZac
Hmmmm, they're not a _super_ complicated car though... Would certainly not be the correct car to learn on though if he's not mechanically minded. A assume your talking a z32 300zx, and not one of the earlier (awesomer) models? Tell him to buy a Starion. 14fast
yea but most of our projects started from a plie of junk, we spend more time on them than our wives They are still a cool care to have, i had one for a short time, 3l v6, 5spd in black, went hard, liked going sideways But hes lucky to have someone help him out, well done. felixx
I think he is going to sell it and get something more 'user servicible' like an escort. Kid is 16, on his learners, If he gets a car he can insure that will be a bonus I think. Fuck Im starting to sound like his dad. Got brakelights and headlights working. He broke the big fin off the back somehow. Next job - find the horn LOL and replace it Who can you chch brothers recommend to make up and fit an exhaust for him. He has all the pipe and mufflers (I think). It is twin pipes, headers look to be intact.
