Turbo VL Holden Help

escorted

Recommended Posts

Soooooo I have more or less taken delivery on my brothers VL....and it has a problem. It started leaking

Petrol from the injector closest to the front of the car. Sent it in to the mechanic next to my work. That

injector is fd in the A blah blah blah take it out find 6 new Turbo injectors from australia, get them here

get them recond and put them back in and it isnt fireing. Spray engine start down intake and it coughs into

life momentarily. Replace spark plugs, fresh fuel etc still not fireing. Options:

1) Place all 6 old ones back in a try one for one on the fucked injector.

2) Persist with new ones

3) Take to auto sparkys and check for pulse on injectors

Any Other ideas would be great thanks.

Matt

factory turbo vl with factory computer?

was it leaking as in flowing constantly or past the o'rings out etc.

just go through all your connections and wind it over with the leads off and the rail out see if fuel squirts out.

Your mechanic should have something they can check for injector signal, a simple noid light is a very cheap and easy way to rule out that side of things. It seems very weird that it had fuel and now doesn't, at all.

As KK said, double check you've gotten the same injectors also.

Car is located at the factory i work at in penrose. The only thing noted about the injectors is a

Blue ring on the original ones but only one of the injectors from australia has a blue ring, in

saying that i was assured by the person i bought them of that they were "fresh out of a vl turbo"

Where I was going with my question is the injector impedance can vary between types of injector and if they are different it may be enough to prevent your injectors from working.. For example - there is about 35982375 different types of injector for 4age - depending on an equal number of computer types...

Measure the impedance between each terminal on the old ones and do the same on at least a couple of new ones..

BTW this is not an exercise to see if the resistance is correct - its more to compare the old injectors with the new and see if they are compatible with your computer.

As long as the new ones are the same/similar to the old ones then I would say that the injectors is not the problem. (seeing as you had them overhauled)

Next I would check that you are getting a signal to your injectors when cranking. As J5 says - get a noid light suitable for your injector and crank it - the noid light will flash in time with the injector pulses if it is working

(an LED put the right way round will work in place of the noid light)

so it coughs on ether?,

have you checked spark across all plugs?

only reason i say that is my vn and yowzers suffered similar spark related problems,

mine the female side of the coil plug was loose as and would make it die intermittently

and yowzers just ran on five from dying coil packs.

it should be a simple fix if it was running before the swap,

are all the injector plug pins making good contact when they're plugged in?,

i put vivid on mine to see if it wore off when it was plugged in to the female socket,

had one loose socket that i tweaked with a small pin and problem was fixed.

rb30ets run an afm do they not? i would be ckecking that to begin with or at lest the conectons, cant remember if they are a hot wire afm or what ever they are called, and are they not also elec dissy?

also, this will be zero help as i cant remember exactly what i replaced on this, but my douche bag brother has a rb20e, that did the exact same thing, had fuel to fuel rail, had spark but very very week

long story short

it was one of the fuel/injector opening relays was sticking, not doing its job

fantastic cars mate had a ex ozzy police interceptor vl, was rapid fast

hope that helps in some way

  • 2 weeks later...

Great sucess. Injector pulse was too weak to fire. So ended up unpicking the loom and finding the supply

to the relay has a slight break in it. Little bit of solder and hey presto its alive. Thanks for all the help

and suggestions!
