nobumps
Anyone got any recomendations on what paint to use? Currently im trying VHT Flame Proof etch primer and using the VHT Flame proof top coat and then baking in the oven. Has anyone used this product? Im not entirley happy with the outcome has come out very chalky.
Testament
what specifically are you painting?
Truenotch
VHT flameproof goes very matte after it's been through a heat cycle, but it's not needed for most parts of your engine. Usually normal paint will survive everywhere apart from the exhaust manifold. If you're painting cam covers or the engine block it's alright to use standard paint - it will get a little soft when it heats up but it sticks well in general. If it's an exhaust manifold you're painting, either live with the matte finish or send it to be coated (HPC, Procoat etc).
Simon
I would try find the colour you want in something like "Caliper paint" from supercheap or repco. Otherwise like Markku said, the paint goes soft, collects dust and then you can never get it clean again.

bubblegoose
by baking in the oven im guessing its not a block, supercheap sell some pretty nice colour 'engine enamels' in spray can, drys quite hard and lasts a fair while, i quite like the pink one. if not standard clear over base system (car body paint spec) will be the best option

Truenotch
Normal paint will be fine for those bits.
