Escorto.
Nope. its one of these http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Ford/Electrics/auction-334675397.htm it looks like its not to bad quality. bit big tho
KKtrips
Yeah thats one of those Pro-comp ones - I would be willing to bet that is your problem.. your timing should be set around 8-10 degrees BTDC
Escorto.
so whats so bad abou pro comp? do you think i should just go and buy some new points, condensor an put the og dizzy back in?
KKtrips
They are abysmal for build quality - I got one for a mates SBC I built and the trigger ring was actually mounted crooked - like 5mm or more difference in height from one side to the other.. I straightened it up and the car then started but ran really bad - put a timing light on it and it was all fluctuating wildy like a richter scale needle in Christchurch - varied by up to 10 degrees at idle.. Gave up on it and went for a brand new MSD unit - without changing anything other than the dizzy the car ran untold better and actually would idle.. Truly if the old dizzy is not fucked and you have the option then I would go back to the OG and try with new P&C. Alterntively check then recheck you have the wiring correct for the change points to electronic.. Those procomp dizzys don't come with any wiring diagram unfortunately.. How did you wire it up?? KKtrips
They are a total crapshoot - some may be good but from what I've read just now and 6 months back when I was fucking with my mates one is that you have a less than 50% chance of getting a good one.. http://www.oldspower.com/vb/archive/ind ... 27423.html http://classicbroncos.com/forums/showthread.php?t=93528
Escorto.
they only need one wire. and its 12 volt + to the terminal that says "BAT". other is just tacho (-) so thats what i did. i know the firing order is right. its on the intake manifold. KKtrips
Not trying to teach you how to suck eggs - but how did you number the cylinders - from memory but 302's and 351's have the same firing order but different methods of numbering the cylinders (now I've typed that - it may be the same method of numbering but different firing order - hmmmm)
KKtrips
302 351 edit - this is a little better NOTE - Most aftermarket cams will also run a 351 firing order
Escorto.
well my firing order and cylinder numbers are stamped onto the manifold/runners and it is correct to your post. 1 3 7 2 6 5 4 8 ill have a better look at it tomorrow.
KKtrips
All gee - I'm grasping at straws here mate so hope I'm not messing you round - though I would keep the idea in mind that the dizzy is a source of problems..
