Long shot but thought someone on here might be able to help

Trying to fit an oil pressure gauge sender

anyone know what the thread for the hole next to the oil filter should to be?

1/8" NPT (as on autogauge senders)

OR

1/8" BNT (as on super cheap calibre ones)

I was sent out the incorrect sender by johnny with my gauge as my sender is 140-300 ohms and the gauge requires 0-140 ohms. took some time to work this out very grrrrrranoying, the thread on the sender i have is 1/8" NPT with a taper and seems to seal was just wondering if it should be the other as it only takes two turns before its tightened up.

whats typical?

Cheers guys

It's the super common mazda oil pressure sender thread. Common to most mazda piston engines in the 80s/90s

You are probably right in saying they all use the same thread - but that doesn't tell us what it is to be able to buy the right fittings to adapt it to his sensor/sender. I would be guessing at either some size of metric fine thread or BSP is common for sensors. I would doubt the factory thread is NPT on a Japanese engine.

also I've never heard of a BNT thread.

My Guess would be 1/8 BSP - looking in thread tables tells me that 1/8" BSP is 28 tpi and 1/8" NPT is 27 tpi - this would explain why it goes in a wee bit then goes tight.
