danger
Old ladies carib seems to apparently have fits of being extremely sluggish and almost dying when it slows down at lights or something. Nothing obvious. Its an auto. Any ideas?
Vintage Grumble
My silver top did this for about 3 months, never found out what it was, and then one day it started running sweet, never happened again. Two guys I know have had a similar problem (both with silver tops tho) both turned out to be ECU, they have shit diodes or something in them, common for them to leak their slime out, and cause weird faults. Spencer
Yea check the caps in the ECU should be behind the glovebox? maybe. Remove the lid and its usually pretty visible when they've gone, but sometimes not. They are all available and not to hard to solder in, Also check and clean the idle control valve/ stepper motor
danger
Also check and clean the idle control valve/ stepper motor Where's this? it seems to idle a little low as well. Was wondering if it was some sort of solenoid or sensor failure in gearbox as well
Spencer
hey dude on the intake side of the engine tucked up down the thermostat end http://4age20v.blogsome.com/2008/03/21/44/
danger
Champion. Think it may have been just a kickdown issue with the box, i've adjusted it. Will try that on both the 4ages here though and see what it does.
Spencer
Meant to say earlier, it can't realy be a kick down issue dude. These boxes are fully electronicly controlled, so the kick down is just the line pressure. Which should make naff all difference if its out slightly
CXGPWR
From memory silver tops run AFM and black tops run Map sensor. Check air hose(big rubber ugly thing) between said Air flow meter & throttle/plenum. Make sure its not sucking in un meterd air

danger
Just saw there had been more posts... I've fixed it, I checked map sensor and tested the throttle sensor, pulled ECU apart etc. Turns out after all the bullshit the problem happened to my old man and he was able to actually explain it a bit better. I raised idle to where it should be and tightened up the throttle cable to the gearbox and no more issues. FFS etc.
