RUNAMUCK
Hey, I have an inline four which I'm slapping together with pistons from another flavour on engine. I don't know which way the piston is suposed to go on the pin, (There is no notch to say front on them)So which way does the gudgeon pin offset go. (as a rule of thumb)
KKtrips
from what I understand the offset is offset to the "major thrust" side
Unclejake
Sounds right to me. In a north-south engine if the motor runs clockwise looking from the drivers seat then the gudgeon pin should be closer to the bore wall on the driver's side than the passenger side of the vehicle I think
karmagedon
If it's rotating from clockwise would the major thust side not be on the passengers side, as this is where the piston will hit coming down? Wait, UJ is correct. Gudgeon on drivers side. When piston travels down the bore on a power stroke it is offset to the passengers side ( major thust side ). With the Gudgeon being offset this allows it to be centralised over the crank. I think aswell??
KKtrips
UJ put it well - Although not many engines run clockwise when observing from the drivers seat - maybe except honduhs.
