QCADTA
i might just try find all the measurements for as any as i can see if any of them measure up close to the escort one. And ultimately if that fail then i'll resort back to hilux one, with them is it jus shortened that needs doing or is there more involved in the process? read the tech articles on hilux diff into escort. Truenotch
There's an anglia race car that runs an SR20DET and a ford diff.... 300HP through an Anglia diff with quaife centre and custom axles. Strong custom made chrome-moly axles are reasonably priced from Mr Howat in Wellington.
Unclejake
I have said that you will not blow a standard diff with a Pinto unless you treat it badly but if you are serious about upgrading then bid here http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 644798.htm This is not an ideal street ratio. Truenotch - who is Mr Howatt?
Truenotch
^^ Brian Howat in Nae Nae, Gaz has had a bit of work done by him and I'm getting axles done there at the moment. Seems like a good dude and does a lot of work for 4WD club.
Unclejake
Chur boe. I will store that in the memory banks. An associate had some Quaife floating axles and bearings on the market for the Cortina a while back but I could not imagine that I needed them. If I get stronger axles the diff will be the next thing to break. The main attraction in the floating axles is the possibility of adding a touch of negative camber with less stress and the added safety associated with a captive wheel if the axle does fail. A chap I know got clogged in the stands by a flying Mustang wheel at Taupo a few years ago (I was there but not involved) after an axle broke post collision. Scary shit. Scary shit. That is scary! I love my floating axles.... especially when a crownwheel/pinion dies and seizes - pop axles out and push on the trailer. Easy. RT
Baby Atlas Diff from a Mk1 3L Capri Good for 200 odd hp which is more than you'll 2L be making. Fit straight in, has brackets for anti-tramp bars, same stud pattern for your wheels, big 3L drum brakes. I happen to have one for sale soon if you're interested. Unclejake
RT, do you have any way to weigh that complete drum to drum axle assembly once it is removed? What year did that diff housing come out? The date of internals don't matter, just the housing. I would be ever so grateful..............
RT
guess I could see if someones got a few scales I could put one under each side and total the weight. Don't know about year, it's out of a V6 MK1 Capri so will be between 1969-73 If the 3.22 doesn't suit then you can swap crown wheels from any atlas ie. a 3.54 or 3.77 from a 2L capri. But only the V6 MK1 had the narrow atlas that all the escort boys want. About 2" shorter than a standard Atlas.
Unclejake
I didn't know about these diffs. Are after market cw&p available in lower ratios (like 4.5:1)? http://www.vkukko.fi/ford/atlas.htm
RT
sure, people have been racing atlas diffs for years all the standard aftermarket parts are avail. LSD's etc. But pretty expensive for a new LSD unit unless you manage to score one out of a 2.8i S Capri but good luck finding one of those. I know one person who has one in his garage but he won't sell. lol http://www.palmside.co.nz/parts.asp?mak ... egory=DIFF
Unclejake
LSD bad. Open diff good. Pre65.org.nz
super_gt
just wondering if there are any worthwhile ways to strengthen the diff? i've heard you can shorten the hilux diffs and have them put in there, but i've also heard that's pretty expensive and that it needs quite a bit of work. Are there any other ways to make the diff slightly stronger? bro ive got an rn25 hilux and a mk2 esky in my shed there is exactly 5mm difference in diff width hilux is 5mm shorter
Sorensin
you should totaly sell me the diff from your hilux. Cheers

The later (more common) model diffs are way wider. Gaz
