esky 73
pinto build is starting! any info on finding bits would be a good help, or any pitfalls to avoid, i have a couple of books, Des Hammill, vizard, and have built engines in the past but never a pinto, so all feedback welcome, cheers

esky 73
yeah i am going to build it to cope with a hiding, i bought the escort as a trackday car so it has to be reliable, head work forged pistons, steel rods and i am going to use a old dry sump set up off one of my old formular ford motors, i would like it to be as quick as it is with the ca18det but this may not be realistic, i'm not going to build it half assed, do it once and do it right ( hopefully!) nismo.capri
yeah i am going to build it to cope with a hiding, i bought the escort as a trackday car so it has to be reliable, head work forged pistons, steel rods and i am going to use a old dry sump set up off one of my old formular ford motors, Well you have the bottom end sorted! Rods and pistons are the weak points. Get the biggest inlet valves you can. If you are going for a big lift cam reinforce the cam towers and meke sure you check the valve springs for coil bind and that the spring retainer isn't hitting the stem seal. i would like it to be as quick as it is with the ca18det but this may not be realistic, i'm not going to build it half assed, do it once and do it right ( hopefully!) Are you tuboing the 2L? Here's the flow data of the std CA vs the std Pinto and the CA kicks the Pinto's arse, which is not surprising considering that the CA is a modern 4 Valve head. Se how the CA exhaust out flows the 2L inlet up to .200 lift
nismo.capri
http://turbosport.co.uk/showthread.php?t=133121 - perfect timing! He can run more squish than that you can actually have the pistons run just proud of the block if you run the std thickness gasket
