NewGuy
I have got the timing at the factory spec of 10DBTDC Maybe even a bit more advanced Every thing seems to be mint. Plenty of power etc etc. But after it is revved over 5000rpm in 2nd and then you change to either 3rd or 4th and you try give her some gas it pings. If you take it easy it seems to be fine. I Then back the timing off a bit and adjust it to suite and then it feels as if it needs advancing again and all seems to be well. What could be creating such a change? Running 98Octane She is running cool as
Gaz
What do you mean it feels like it needs advancing?? Its laggy? What compression ratio you run? Id say its just not adjusted properly.

Yea feels laggy and missing power i dunno my compression is sposed to be 140psi and each cylinder is like 170psi. My ratio is in the parts book i have at home. Is there any chance the dizzy can change the advance at all?
Unclejake
So - It is pre-detonating under load A) You have planed your head and increased the compression ratio You have too much advance to be safe Solutions: 1) Back off the timing and live with it 2) Check cam timing to ensure that there is the correct valve overlap (more overlap reduces dynamic compression and assumes you have a twin cam) 3) Rip the head off and start again I vote for #
NewGuy
Its running pretty rich aye. Idles at 850rpm to 1000rpm. Nah not high rpm just high load Say pulling 4th at 2000rpm and putting my foot flat it pinks.

Unclejake
??WTF? Are you doing this without a timing light and just based on static timing? If so you need to get a light on there before deciding anything
Guest vvega
well im prolly gonna get harassed for this BUT take off the vacuum advance .....loosen the locking screw grab dizzy....turn it one way so it just starts to idle up remember that spot.... now twist it the other way so it just starts to idle down ....now smack it in the middle between the 2 spots....... Hemi
.. i did what vvega was saying but just left it were it rose in idle then drove if it pinked, backed off , repeat etc. my escort had 18 deg advance or somthing and ran mint well cept when vacuum lines broke , then all hell broke loose . either way get a fuckin timing light and do it properly then you can start from square one and wonder off where if you want to
