MACKAZ
The ones on the XJ have a few cracks around them, possibly causing an vacuum leak. Was going to try and coat them with a even coat of clear Permatex Silicon. Reckon it will work or am I going to pay thru the muthafuckn nose for some new ones???? Unclejake
I reckon your idea will be a waste of time. Check them with brakeclean first - you will be able to spot a vacuum leak that way (with the engine running) as the engine will stumble and die if there is a leak when you are spraying brakeclean. Do the XJs have points? Also - check the alternator. If it is missing when the indicators are on it suggestes a voltage drop. CDI ignition is pretty sensitive to voltage
MACKAZ
Alternator was first thought. Dad had it checked when he first got it. The grumpy old bugger only told me last night it had the problem when he parked it up........ Will try the brakleen idea. Thanks UJ
sentra
from memory your ones look something liek this? give up and make a steel flange, weld a short length of tube on and cut some radiator hose to slip between carb and flange/tube/ 2 bandclamps stz then never worry about those crappy things ever again.
