XPLOIT
Hey guys, I have recently put a stereo with sub/amp into my Austin 1300. My problem is... The original generator cant keep up and everytime I have to stop somewhere, im scared of turning off the car in case in wont start again Does anyone know of an easy way of replacing it with a higher output alternator? Any shops/places in CHCH that can help me out with parts/brackets? Cheers, Jared
KKtrips
I had boom sounds in my austin - standy alternator was sweet - You can buy brand new ones from Pan Pacific - cost about $120 from memory
XPLOIT
Was it an Alternator or Generator? I think mine has a generator and when its at idle with the stereo going, it doesnt have enought power to make the indicator relay work
KKtrips
mine has an alternator - you can change your generator to an alternator very easily..
XPLOIT
Just one from a mini wreckers or similar will fit or does it have to be ADO16 specific? Alternator will provide more charge then generator, correct? Cheers for the help!
KKtrips
yes true - but will need to check if you need reg also - plenty of sites out there will give you the necessary info to change from gen to alt. It is NOT just a straight bolt over but it is very easy to do.
kyteler
Keeping in mind whether the car is negative or positive earth etc too. What alternator you get will have to be compatible with it.
sholdowa
An alternator produces more power at low revs than a generator, and is usually lighter - less magnets as coils are used instead.
XPLOIT
Mint, I have a guy I know that should be able to supply me with the parts hopefully. I think the alternator should have the nessecery regulator inside it anyway....? So should be able to bypass the Generators one. It has Negative earth too. Cheers for the help. tortron
may as well convert the earth while you are at it
XPLOIT
Convert to a Positive earth? What would be the advantage in doing that? Guess ill have to find a external regulator for the alternator then. Thanks.
