i have a cortina mk3 maual 2 piece d/s with a big rubber knuckle

If it's a 4 speed, then the single piece should be the easiest to fit. The tailshaft of the 5 speed box is larger than the 4 speed, which means you need the front end off a cortina / hunter to fit it. The flange at the tail end is one of 2 sizes - the Mk.1 is smaller than the Mk.2, so use the appropriate end.

You won't have moved the gearbox ( unless the van was an auto ), so the original length should fit. It's only when you go to 5 speed when you need a shortened prop with a different end on it. Although I hear that a single piece Mk.1 escort auto prop is just right.

Allegedly :D:D

I've never worked on anything newer than a Mk.3 cortina, and I'm pretty certain that there's no difference between that or any other 4 speed ford gearbox in that respect. Anyway, it's pretty easy to check when you've got all the bits in front of you. :D:D

i have all the parts out the 1 piece is to long with the mk3 box in there.

so the 2 piece will be the same.

and the mk3 is longer then the escort ones and from a qiick measur up last night if i put the mk3 front and mk2 rear is a wee bit longer then the standerd escort one. lol

any ideas

If I were you I'd mash the engine, gb and diff all into place (if they aren't already) and just see if any of the d/s's fit.

If none do its only around $100-150 to get an end changed (or lengthened/shortened) on one of the shafts to make it fit so its not exactly going to be the end of the world if it doesn't all go together with a standard one.

thats a 1600 Xflow mk3 Cortina box your thinking of which is the same as the Escort 4 speed but with a longer tail section.

The auto Escort shaft has the same spline as the 2L 4 speeds and the type 9 box and since the Escort auto box is the same length as the 2L boxes the shaft is the right length too.
