zep
Hey guys.. I need to restud my Hilux axles with longer studs. The problem is that because of the length of the new ones, the backing plate which bolts to the diff gets in the way and I can't get them in. Obviously I need to separate this from the hub on the axle. How do you do this? I'm assuming you remove the circlip behind the plate then use a press? Am I better off sending the axles into steelie gears and getting them to do it (as I could damage them/dont have a press and would prolly use a hammer)? Cheers
Gaz
Kinda a bit unsure of what ya mean. Do you have the axles out already? If not then I think its four bolts holdeing em on then just use a slide hammer to pop the axle out.
Unclejake
^ I think he means that the anchor plate/bearing retainer that you refer to needs to come off the axle as the studs are so long. Not something I have struck before.... they must be bloody big plates on the Hilix diffs
kpr
must mean the backing plates the drum brake stuff is on. the bearing holder bit isnt big enough to get in the way. thought they just unbolted? been along time since i chucked that shit in the bin tho
