escort engine conversion

after thinking about it for a while i have decided that even tho i have seen as much as 298kw out of a turbo pinto. im not sure if i can be assed with the huge level of modification required to acheive this. so does anyobdy know of a decent 1600/2L jappa engine that is good for a cheap and reliable 200kw atw conversion. i was thinking sr20 but the problem being the clearance to the stupidly large mk2 brake booster bracket. will a 4age clear this? what about ca18det? what was the brake set up in methods old 4age escort obviously id be turboing whatever engine i put in it. if anybody has any ideas besides a 13b turbo im all ears.

having had a look at the 4age in gt mk2's wagon it appears that the break booster is still in there and ive been doing some reasearch and it seems that about 190kw atw is fairly do able so i might go with a 4agte as i have a mate who has lots of experience with them and i could probably sort a cheap turbo and wastegate. so although its off subject does anyone have a xmember to fit a 4age into a escort?

theres plenty of room left on the exhaust side of the engine bay so turbo fitting will be no worries. i would go 13b turbo BUT even off boost fuel consumption is a bit on the large side where as i can granny drive a 4agte off boost and not use too much gas

A 200kw 4age aint going to be that great on gas.

Where is this pic. The 4age in my escort had to have the booster removed. Prob cause of the carbs tho. Does the plenium not get in the way? Does the pic you have seen have a custom plenium perhaps?

Whats involved in a 200kw @ wheels 4age? What size turbo and at what boost will pretty much tell me.

Ca18det is a very cheap engine to get 200RWKW from as you can use all second hand other nissan parts which makes it cheap.

In my escort I was running a remote brake system. The booster runs under the dash adn the resivours are ontop of the pedalbox under the dash. Im still using it. All up cost about $100 if ya cant make stuff yourself.

200RWKW also needs brake upgrade and diff upgrade.

wasnt quite 200kw at wheels was only 190 if how much would you want to convert my pedal box to a under dash style one if i sent you it gotta be cheaper then palmsides 695 lol

I just put a ca18det in my mark 1. Mounting the gearbox/cutting into the trans tunnel is the hardest part. If i knew how id put some pics up. Get an rn 10-25 hilux diff as they pretty much bolt sraight in. other than that im still working on my project. :)

200kw at the wheels form a 4age is a big ask mate and getting very expensive

as youv stated you will need forged internals etc which is getting pricey as

will probably need to mate a 20v head onto it for good flow aswell

and a tdo6 turbo is going to be laggy as hell, they use them as a larger hybrid turbo for a 4g63 evo engine and even then they arent on song till around 4000rpm if i rember (dont quote me on exact numbers)

most have a 9 or 10cm exhaust houssng

sure you may end up making 200kw but itll be 4 all of 500rpm before u need to change gear

youd be far better off going for a lower horsepower rating overall and having a much nicer curve

most of the 4agte i have scene have been running t25s off ca18s at around 20 psi

Whoa.. you call that easy 200kw  . Man thats alot of work.

4age 200RWKW

Going rates:

Turbo -$1000 if ya find a secondhand one

Injectors - $250

Cooler - $350

Pistons - $900

Rods - $300 (unsure on price of peening rods.) This and forgies prob not necessary anyway for 190kw

Ported head - $500

Cams - Anywhere between $500-$1000

Pump - $300

Exhaust - not relevant

BOV Wastegate - $500

Boost controller $200

ECU + tune - $1500

Thats $6300 for 200RWKW. Fuck that.

Ca18det 200RWKW

Going rates:

GTIr Turbo - $450

GTIr Injectors - $200

SR20De Throtle Body - $50

RB AFM - $80 (not needed but might aswell)

Intercooler - $350

Pump - VL $100

Exhaust - Not relevant

BOV Wastegate - $500

Boost controller - $200

APEXI SAFC + Tune - $1000

Thats $2930 for 200RWKW+ depending on tune and boost. Turbo prob good for 210.

Neither of those include labour if you cant do it yourself or exhaust system's.

I know which one id go for.. and am going for.

Pedal box. I got mine from my mk2. Didnt make it myself.

Very true on the TD06 coment. Youd be better with a TD05 which can make 250KW@wheels in 2l form and comes on boost alot earlier.

Or the GSR turbo even, a TD04

ca T25 wont run 20PSI. Think they run outta puff at 14.5PSI

oh ok wasnt aware they ran outta puff

maybe a t28 off a gtir then?

i still reckon thats guna be laggy tho as its designed for a 2litre motor

id definately be going a tdo4 maybe the (hl) ball bearing model off the rvr should spool up good

they have similar compressor wheels (just a bit smaller) as the tdo5s etc but only a 6cm housing which would be better suited

then you have to worry about gbox setup

theres noway a t50 will hold up to that sorta punishment so youd have to go w55 with an adapter etc which is even more $$, think adapters are around 800 on there own plus you may need a custom cltuch setup??

for an enigne you are going to have to do everything custom for anyway i would just go a ca18 as the other guys have been saying

allready turbo, standard exhaust manifold will fit as its on passenger side get a t28 turbo for a bit more grunt, maybe use gtir injectors too and will get to around 200kw much easier

for 200kw youd have to be forging a ca18 anyway if you want it to last a while but once again theres a shit load of aftermarket parts avlible for them

and there cheap as chips, looking at around 1-1.5g for a complete one with gbox

plus theres guys on here who know about them

Yup. The above setup I wrote with a CA is proven over and oven to produce between 200-210kw @ treads depending on boost.

The Ca wont need to be forged if tuned right untill around 250-270kw. I know a guy who ran one with a t66 for almost a year putting out 295kw@wheels and never popped it. Its mainly about the tune I guess.

Suppose its all biased tho.

I know there are guys on here that can tell you similar info as I just told ya about some of the toyota engines. Alister on here with the red corona is running a close on 200kw turbo 4age for example. Im pretty sure he hasnt forged it and his turbo aint any where near a td06 size.

Thinking about it now TD06 is a rediculous turbo for the 4age. If ya wanna go anything in that price range step up to the garret ballbearing GT series of turbos. Great spool. S15 silvias are prob the cheapest place to find one of these. They can put out roughly 230kw@wheels on the SR.

TD05h 16g is what I am using. In my eyes the ideal turbo for any 4 cyl uner 250kw car. Cheap, plentiful and proven. What more can you want.

not sure what size it is in comparison but a m8 had a t3 i think off a single turbo 300zx on his 4age and it was on boost by 2750 and full boost by 3250 running 7psi on stock 4agze internals with a stock ae82 computer adjustable fuel pressure reg and a 5th injector it made 147kw at the front tires

T3 is a decent sized turbo. Pretty sure its not the standard 300 turbo, it prob had a t3 flange. T3 Capiable of about 260kw@wheels.

I would be very surprised if a t3 on a 4age was on full boost by 3250RPM. They are known as pretty lagy turbo's. The T3&t4 is known to be a turbo that respond's well on a RB, Rota or similar efficinet engine. Perhaps it was a t3 with a differnt rear cover. or maybe a TD03. They might make 140kw. Unsure.

Street 4 cylinder cars didnt start making REAL power untill the garret GT series came out making the car tractable.

On a 4age run a t25 or td04 or for larger power a t28 or td05
