Josh
Anyone know of anywhere in chch that will rebuild gearboxes? Mainly wanting to know if I can get a type9 rebuilt stronger?
peteretep
talk to palmside, it'll cost though, probably better to get a better gearbox and get a new bellhousing made up to suit
Gaz
Why not see how a standard one handles first. RT can vouch to how strong they are,

peteretep
im pretty sure the most the type 9's can handle with all the superman gears is around 270bhp, its expensive though as I said, and its straight cut gears Sierra Heavy Duty 5 Speed Straight Cut Gear Kit - Heavy Duty In Stock To Fit: Ford Escort & (Other) $3,150.00 Ratios are: 1st 2.390 2nd 1.690 3rd 1.210 4th 1.1 5th .930 up to 270hp alloy maincases in stock
sholdowa
Straight cut is really noisy though.

RT
oooh... don't try rebuilding the type9 stronger it will cost you a fortune. For that price you could get your tunnel inlarged and a toyota box in and still have change. the type9 is rated at 180-190 I put 230 through it but was prepared for it to spit the dummy at any stage. I never took it took it to the strip cos one good hard launch and there would be bits of type9 all over the track. Put the 55 in man.. even if you have to take the car in somewhere to get a professional opinion. Or buy my W50 setup, that will work sweet as and take the abuse.
