40/40 carb

Gaz

Recommended Posts

Somewhere here someone was talking about a carb i was interested in. Im sure it was a 40/40 of a capri.

Well anyways some info on them is what im after. Am wondering if the 40/40 is a good upgrade from the 32/36 on the pinto or should i just rejet etc the 32/36?

Surelly if it was that good people would always do it?

Has anyone run these carbs with no chokes? Outcomes?

Cheers

most people I talk to think that they put in too much fuel, because they did come on 3litre capris didnt they?

For me, a 38/38dgas would be the biggest downdraft I would get before going to sidedrafts, there was a couple of single sidedraft manifolds for sale on trademe for xflows a while ago which I would go for

I was looking for a cheap upgrade. The 40/40 and manifold is for a box of piss.

The 32/36 actually is 32mm and 36mm. The 40/40 has chokes and the biggest you can buy is 32mm. Could machine them down i supose. maybe make it up to a 35/35. Wonder if thatd be better. might just have to play round with it i think. Should be smoother power.

should go ok providing you set it up with the correct jets and venturis for your engine....

chokes = meh. webers have the accelerator pump so no probs getting it going in the cold. just will be a tad hairy until you get heat into it.

I know a few people that tkae the chokes out, esp the water heated auto chokes. when they get older they cause a few probs, and ideally you shouldn't load up a cold engine anyways

Yeah will be sweet without the chokes. I had one on my pinto escort years ago was mega hungry but gave more performance thats for sure. I know my dad had to jet it because it was his car originaly before he gave it to me I think he redrilled jets out of a 32/36 because the standard 40/40 ones were to big and 32/36 ones to small or something like that...

  • 2 weeks later...

i put one of the 40/40 webers on my old aussie ass 4.1 mk3 cort once it was jetted correctly dropped 1/4 mile from 15.0 to 14.5 no other changes. i had the chokes removed and it had a mild cam but always behaved even when cold these are a good carb but parts must be getting a bit thin on the ground now
