two_days_late
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Ford/Engines-drive-trains/auction-45631208.htm Im thinking about buying this for my escort, though im not convinced it'll be as easy as the auction states. Has anyone else fitted sierra discs on the back of their esky, or know whats involved? Cheers Matt

two_days_late
yea definatly, im sure i remember someone on here saying the sierra rear discs arnt very well suited for the escorts for some reason, or that could have just been the diffs. anyone know anything about this conversion? Burntrubber
Would'nt be hard if you can make up brackets and weld confidently. There are a few other isues like will the stock master cylinder be big enough and those calipers don't look like they are handbrake type which you will need but they might be just can't see from that pic. crazy_rich
http://www.caprisport.com have a brake kit that uses sierra rear calipers, they dont use a vented rotor though, thanks for the post, ive got that kit on my watchlist
Gaz
he wants over $100 for them. Im thinking like $150+ I wouldnt buy them for any more than 150max. Also you will need a brake bias valve thingie wont ya. so the back isnt better than front. Anyone lese think thats expensive?
Burntrubber
Anyone lese think thats expensive? Yeah I do I think its best to get rear disks with an internal drum for the hand brake they lock up better Imo. Yeah may need a bias valve to. Burntrubber
wtf rear disks with a drum on the rear too? Yeah its inside the disk. The disk is the drum if you get what I'm saying hard to explain.

peteretep
i read an article a while ago about putting sierra disks onto a lotus 7 type car. he had 2 sets of calipers on each disk, one hydraulic foot brake and one handbrake. I was talking to a guy who races escorts the other day and he was saying that all his mates were going back to drum rear end because of when they stop racing and pull the handbrake on, the brake melts the disk to the pads due to the heat
Burntrubber
Plus drums lock better when doing a handbrake slide.
two_days_late
I know the VN commodores have discs on the back plus a drum for the handbrake. If you were to do the sierra disc conversion, how hard is it to take the complete drums off? i've never actually take the complete drum off my axle. Cheers Matt
excort
id say just stick with the drums if you ask me ive heard some pretty nasty things about people doing burnouts with rear disk's and the pad wearing right down and then putting big groves in the disk costly to replace just go bigger drums if you want better brakeing tho im no expert
Burntrubber
I know the VN commodores have discs on the back plus a drum for the handbrake. I have a VN Commodore diff in my Gemini(not going yet) VK and a half right through to VS live axels have the same setup. As for getting drums off you have to take the axel out to get the dust covers off.
two_days_late
Yep yep, i thought they probably would. hmm i think i might just flag the rear end for now.
