davidian
never been an issue at all aye just give it a good clean when a clutch change takes place or whatever otherwise bobs your uncle however, one reaccuring problem is the end of the clutch cable for some reason falls off the fork quite often. the universal solution (gods gift)-cable ties:)
Guest WESTCORT
i foudn with my new clutch the cable is almost too long anyone else find that? i know jerm did
davidian
yeah shure is.. u using a sierra one as well? id rather have it too long than a too-short escort one that i used to go trough every fortnight, fukin things would always give way on the pedal end, sometimes the gearbox end. K road in peak traffic aint that much fun to loose ya clutch in, i tell ya. neither is the main road to mission bay on a sunny sunday avo with mad backlogs
Guest kris
I've never broken a clutch cable in my life - WTF are you doing to it? BTW: Plate keeps the clutch dry and clean, that sounds like a good idea to me...

RT
Yeah I've broken a few MK1 clutch cables.. we found it's to do with the angle out of the firewall.. I unded up using a cable tie & a bolt to keep it on the right angle at all times.
davidian
I've never broken a clutch cable in my life - WTF are you doing to it?BTW: Plate keeps the clutch dry and clean, that sounds like a good idea to me... like i said above they just used to snap for no reason.. like RT said tho most prob to do with the angle... as far as the plate goes i know very well its function, however the car has been running on and off for 4 years and its had the same secondhand clutch in it since the very start, still reliable, doesnt slip, bites well, no quams whatsoever, so im happy as. fuk the plate i say. you guys can run whatever you please
peteretep
what about getting a clutch that fits a xflow flywheel etc with a 1x23 spline to fit the gearbox. also just looking at the gearbox, i think the bellhousing is from a standard escort gearbox but if theres someone out there with a standard escort gearbox could you take a pic of it so i can see if theres any difference. Ive had a look on the burton website but its on a weird angle so i cant tell, thanks
peteretep
well i just found out today that i already have a pinto clutch and pressure plate and already have a re-drilled flywheel, except that it still has a xflow spline... the guy said it may be a clutch from a escort van as they had a heavier duty clutch to handle the extra weight so he said to bring in the clutch and he will just change the spline over alot easier than i thought, now i just have to make sure i have the right bellhousing
