atropine
yeah im also gonna be wondering bout this in the future.. also is there differences between type9, mt75 and t5 when it comes to driveshaft?
Guest WESTCORT
im gonna be doin this very soon aswell, as far as i know i can take a sierra 2 piece and fit one of the pieces up to one of the pieces in my standard eski shaft and it will be a perfect fit. can anyone recomend a palce to get the mounts made up in auckland? and apart from that i just need to drill a new hole for my lever and then im as good as gold right? esky boi
Yea I was looking at my mounts and theyre only spot welded on, I spose you could probably just cut them out and re weld them to where they need to be. Ill probably have a go at doing that or else just bolt the gearbox through the floor with some thick plates. For the gearlever hole I think you can probably just cut the original one out, then cut out a piece of metal the same size from further down the tunnel swap the pieces round and weld them into place. Doing it this way, you still use the original gear lever hole which has the nice lip on it for attatching the gearstick covers (cant think of their proper name ) And driveshafts, I've also heard that the shaft from an auto escort will fit, but im not 100% sure, I think these are still two piece, dunno if you can get single piece ones of these or not. But why not use a two piece anyway? im gonna try and find out some more info because im going to be doing the 2L, five speed conversion very soon. If anyone else can add to this or help out some more it'd be cool.
RT
You get a sierra drive shaft and your esky one and get the sierra head joined to your shortened escort item. It doesn't cost much, basically standard driveshaft shortening, head swap and balance. The type9, mt75 and t5 are different lengths as far as I know. The mt75 is also lots wider and I don't think it fits in an escort unless it's an auto trans.

atropine
im looking at putting a type9 in the panelvan, as its a 4.1 diff and my girlfriends hates sitting at high revs.. so 3700 at 100kph aint a very welcome idea.. rt.. ya said the mt75 wont fit, but will the type9 fit a manual tunnel without modification? i was always under the impression that any of the sierra 5spds needed an auto or modded tunnel.. RT
yeah...not sure about an escort actually, I thought the type9 fitted, but perhaps I ment 'fitted better.' The type-9 fits easily into the capri with room to go. I've got a few type9's lying around but...I don't think they're up to my punishment.. Jerm
RT are you in auckland? i know of a mk2 ghia.. which is rustier than a bucket of rust but has a good 1600 in it that hasn't been run for a good while but would probably still be good..... going for free but you must take the whole car.... couldn't get a good look a the engine cos the bonnet hinges are rusted closed! its in auck btw
davidian
nah-hes in "03" so isnt in aux, but if that ghia has a diff thats any less than 3.9 ill have it
atropine
Got any spare 1600 engine's? blocks or heads? i do actually! well im pretty sure i do.. i bought a 1300 a while ago as a parts car (mainly just for the corty box), and while the guy thought it was "the best lil 1300 hes ever had", the block says BA, so im thinking its a 1600. ill have another look later today or tomorrow, and get some pics. Mr.Mk1
Can I ask why you want to run a one-piece? All I did was Half a Sierra, half an Escort and it was aaaaaallll gooooooood!
atropine
im guessing a 1piece is stronger.. but 1/4 sierra 1/4 escort sounds easier
two_days_late
yea this ones not actually for my car, its a guy building a skid car with LSD and a 2 litre, the single piece is a lot more responsive apparantly so he was wondering if theres a way anyones managed to use one. apparantly the big rubber thingy at the gearbox end of the sierra driveshaft doesnt fit in the escort tunnel too? im not sure of that tho
Mr.Mk1
If its only a skid car, I would have thought the cheaper option would be the better one? And all you need to do to get the 5sp in a manual tunnel is tear out all the old 4sp mounts, fits well.
